Wow ... this question sparked plenty of controversy, didn't it? It may have been in your wording.
The Bible was compiled by the early church, which was The Catholic Church, so you are correct about that. But there were some people of the early church who did not want to carry the same vision as the early church did ... or they did not believe that the direction of the early church (Catholic) was heading in a direction that would seem synomymous with Christ's teachings, which also was untrue. There were several issues that broke up the early church, and other churches formed from those, and it continued to escalate from there.
This is basically the reason why some Christians do not believe in the Teaching Authority of the Roman Catholic Church (The Pope), or the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. At one point, there was only one church (the definition of Catholic is Universal), but after a while, there were different opinions, and other churches ... even other Bibles, were formed.
Here is a bit more trivia for you ... did you know that the first Bibles had not been made until 300 years after Christ died? And that even then, The Bible wasn't available to everyone who wanted one? The early christians had to have complete trust in the early church ... and to this day ... that tradition still stands in the Roman Catholic Church. That is why you generally don't see a Roman Catholic carrying a Bible into the church. Another reason for that is ... each of the readings from the Old Testament and the New Testament for each days Mass (service) is in the Church for everyone to read along with the Priest (generally, there is a Mass service every day of the week).
As far as Mother Teresa is concerned ... actually, yes, there have been some really great role models, which we call saints, from our Church before Mother Teresa. There are many examples of people devoting their lives in service to others in Jesus' name. The church is in good, no ... great company when it comes to wonderful people devoting their lives to Our Lord. Having these role models is wonderful, because it shows us that we all have our own gifts, our own speical way, of being of service to God, and submitting to His will. So I would say, to complete your statement ... no Christians are as that good of a role model ... that you are aware of, because there are others.
Finally, I would have to agree somewhat with your statement, that catholic is the same as any other Christians. Roman Catholics are Christians, but just like any other church, you have Christians that practice, and Christians that don't practice. And of the Christians that practice, you have those that search for truth, and others that accept truth without research, and still others that bend truth to suit their needs.
I hope the answer wasn't too long ... it's a very involved question, and I thank you for it. I hope that it is helpful to you.

Catholics do not have the copyright on Christianity. The person above was right-- the OT was written by the Jews and many of the NT letters were written by Paul, and originally written in Greek. The coucil of nicea didnt put it together (Have you not heard EVERY ARGUMENT AGAINST THE DAVINCI CODE???) The people who argue for the book say the same thing.. the put it together, they put it together.and on and on and on.
The concil was there to AFFIRM what was already written. I think Mother Theresa was a great person in addition to many other "saints" but no "christians are that good a role model" is a self-defeating statement........for example,
Billy Grahmn (though baptist?)
Ravi Zacharius
Josh Mcdowell
John R.W Stott
C. S. Lewis-----look this guy up
Robert Murray McShayne
And many others who dont get the attention of being brought up to "saint" status.
Why do so many belivers try to find disagreements from within and cause so much disarray when they could be spending the time discipling belivers???? Do you not know what makes you a Christian is not the denomination or abomination you belong to but whether or not you know Christ Jesus as Lord and saviour in your heart? Athiest see statements like this and capitilize on this saying "they cant even keep it together"

Of course Catholics compiled the New Testament. They chose exactly which books to include, so this is compiling. Catholics made the Christian bible, and if Protestants don't like it too bad. The NT is only one of the many Catholic traditions, they never closed that canon. Later the Protestants came along and decided to close the canon to sixty-six books. So, god waited till the eighteenth century for Luther's mob to give the world the real bible? What a silly idea.

The Catholics (or what would become Catholicism / Nicene Christianity) compiled the Bible we know today because there were many disputes among early Christianity as to what was and what wasn't scripture, so Emperor Constantine I convened the Council of Nicaea do settle on what would compose the Christian canon, among other issues within the young church. Some Christians don't follow Catholic teachings mainly because the Protestants interpreted scripture different than Catholics and they (Protestants) believed that their new interpretation of scripture would no longer allow them to follow certain teachings of the Catholic Church.

Catholics didn't "create" the Bible.
I could list a few things that separate Catholics from Christianity that go against Bible teaching.
1. Purgatory
2. Mary without sin
3. Idolizing Mary
4. Confessionals with priests
5. Baby baptism
6. Certain prayers to saints
Not sayng that Catholics have good morals but morals alone will not get anyone in heaven, Only a relationship with Jesus and accepting Him as Lord and Savior, also, doing the will of God will help you get those into heaven. Any graven image is against the Ten Commandments.

It is important to understand that all of the teachings of the Catholic church are not based on the Bible. One of decisions made at the Vatican II council was that Catholic tradition had the same authority as scripture. The result are some Catholic teachings that are not contained in scripture, such as the immaculate conception of Mary. Others seem to contradict some scripture. For example consider the following passage from 1 Timothy Chapter 4:
Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will renounce the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared with a hot iron. They forbid marriage and demand abstinence from foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, provided it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by God’s word and by prayer.
That scripture would seem to contradict the Catholic teaching that priests must be celebit.
Most protestants believe in something called Solo Scriptura, which means that the Bible and only the Bible forms the basis of faith. There is no room for tradition. There is also no room for a single person, in this case the Pope, to have the ability to define a new doctrine completely on his own.
I am not trying to be critical here. Personally, I do not have an issue with the Catholic church. But you have to understand that it is a fact, acknowledged by the Church, that all Catholic teachings are not based on scripture, and that is why some Christians do not accept their teachings.

Who said Catholics compiled the bible? You do know their are many versions right?
The Catholic church goes against so many scriptures in the bible, why would any "true" christian want to believe them?
How many Catholics know the 10 Commandments? Very few, I bet you don't. Why? Because Catholics don't follow the bible.
Lets start with Exodus 20:
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
All those graven images Catholics bow down to, and pray, and worship as a God. People praying to "dead saints", where is that written in the Bible.
Also, Matthew 23:9 - And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
Padre, and Pope, Father, all names you call your so called priests. Also, why are you confessing your sins to a man? Do you need a priest to ask Jesus to forgive you? I thought Jesus was the only mediator between man and God, well, I Guess Catholics and just skip that part, they got the secret unwritten word from God, we are just to believe their lies, right?
I could go on and on, Do I need to say something about Gay Priest or Child Molesting? I will leave that for you Catholics to cover up. It is to shameful to talk about.
I guess that is why, just recently Catholics made their NEW BIBLE, they translated it themselves. You can say now, they compiled the bible. Their very own, to fit the lies they tell to make sense, because we all know any "true Christian who studies the bible, just a little bit, and wants to know and do the truth, they will see through the lies. Good for them, Brillant, now they can keep most of their followers from leaving because the other bibles, seem to get people out of their church, how strange. Luckily Satan rules this world and more people seem to follow Satan, so they will always have a bigger Congregation :)
Show me where in the bible it says, Peter was called Pope. That is another lie. After Jesus said call no man father, why would Paul be called father. I will say that, Some bibles have many different religions even Jews and Catholics to help with the translations. But no True Christian is going to follow a bible solely compiled by a Catholic.

The Catholic Church was the first massively organized Christian church. As such, they put together the books of the first Bible.
However, the Protestant Reformation began the first major splintering from the Catholic Church, and this was because of some major disagreements with Catholicism (Martin Luther's 97 Theses).
When the Protestants split and formed their own church, their Bible included less books (Macabees, e.g.), because they disagreed with the text within them.
Catholics are the same as any Christians, they just have different interpretations of the faith than Protestants.

Catholics didn't compile the Bible. They have their own authorized version though. And Catholics aren't like the mainstream Christians. I would discuss the differences but it would take too much time so you will have to research it yourself. It's fun to do. One of my hobbies actually is comparing faiths. It's a great way to develop your own faith or support your current faith.

Jesus' disciples were the source of the books in the New Testement. Christians and the Roman Catholic Church, as we know it today, didn't take form until hundreds of years after Jesus walked the Earth as a man. Need to study Martin Luther and the reformation to understand the split from Rome.
