A person is free from sin when they stop believing in what sin represents. The use of the idea is to control people from doing what is natural, based on the genetic programming in the DNA. When and if the spirit animating the body is mature or strong enough to override the programming of the body, they are no longer controlled by it. And of course death works too.

I don't read the bible that much, but from the standpoint of logic the question begs first a definition of sin. Religions all over the world have differences in their perception of sin. In most however, a sin is perceived as acts we do that's not pleasing to the eyes of God. So logically, when one dies, this act can no longer be performed and therefore "freed" from committing those acts of sin.
Psalms are liturgical hymns. People's artistic expression of their love, perception, and understanding of their God. So it is not inconceivable to think that in the old days, the psalters just like the current poets and singers, take artistic liberties and produce phrases that are effective, dynamic, and generally sounds good. Because of this, there will never be a universal agreement in their interpretation and understanding. For me, it simply means that if I sin now, my morals, ethics, and conscience if you well, would make my life hell because I won't be able to face myself.

I am Christian and I think that if you believe in God (you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord) and live for him and when you sin you repent and turn from your sin then when you die and go to Heaven you will be free form all sin. In Romans 6:11 It says Count yourself dead to your sin which means die to you fleshs' desires (don't do what your flesh wants to do) I think you should read all of Romans 6 and you will have a better understanding. :o)

"For he that is dead is freed from sin."
MEANING: We are freed from all mortal problems and issues once we set foot into the heavenly gates...
"The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God."
MEANING: A soul will still reach heaven, however, this soul will return to this mortal world (Earth aka Hell) for a second chance to redeem its worthiness to be closer to God when the soul returns to heaven...
I believe in reincarnation...

They are only freed of Sin when they accept Christ as their Savior, yes then they are freed of Sin and will gain entrance into heaven, Those that died not freed of sin and were living in sin at time of death, then well, there is your answer, in hell they will be, unless they can accept Jesus as they savior on their dying breath...maybe then he'll let them in to the fathers house...

Death is the wages of sin. So when you are dead, the scales have been balanced.
Eccl.9:5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten.
Gen. 3:17 And to Adam he said: “Because you listened to your wife’s voice and took to eating from the tree concerning which I gave you this command, ‘You must not eat from it,’ cursed is the ground on your account. In pain you will eat its produce all the days of your life. 18 And thorns and thistles it will grow for you, and you must eat the vegetation of the field. 19 In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return.
Hell only defines the condition of being dead.

Sin is not real. It is a fictionmade up by people who want to control others. Sure we all make mistakes but all God askes of us is that we correct our errors at the next avalible opertunity. This is how we learn this is the way God chose for us to learn. He does not judge us for doing what he wants us to do. Judgment is a human failing God only loves he does not judge.

If you have a relationship with Jesus Christ, you can talk to him and repent for your sins. Every one is a sinner. It is part of life. But once you know God, it is easier to clean up your life and ask God for forgivness for your sins. When you are judged by God, he will truly know if you have been a genuine follower of him and if your fate is in heaven--or hell. It is your choice.
Sorry if i didn't really answer your question that well...i didn't really understand it! :)

what religion are you? and if your not a religion then what religion are you looking to answer this question? because different religions have a different view point on this.
In my religion and my "belief" according to the BIBLE, if you have been saved, and accepted Jesus in to your heart and you believe that he died for your sins, then you can sin and still reach heaven, he will make you accountable for your sins but you get to heaven.
it is a long topic because with every question, comes an answer, and with every answer, comes another question.
perhaps you should call your pastor and arrange to meet for a couple of hours to talk about all this.
