"People have asked me, aren't you abandoning your troops in the decision you've made? No I'm not. The best way I can support my fellow soldiers and those under me is by helping to oppose an illegal war and helping to end it."

If the war were 'illegal' then people would be able to quote the US law that makes it illegal.

In fact this person is even more despicable because he is placing mere political opinions ahead of his sworn duty.

IMO his real motive is pure cowardice - he is just hoping that people fall for his 'pure motives' claim.

He's a coward. He knew what he was getting himself into when he joined the Army, but after his "research", he decided that he didn't want to go. No one wants to go to war, but when he signed on, he knew the chances of his going to Iraq was good (or did he think they would be done by the time he got to his unit?), especially since he's a combat officer. Our Commander In Chief ordered him to go and even though the CIF's reasons are questionable, it's not for Waaaatada to decide if it's legal or illegal. Everyone in a war makes a difference to someone's life and if one soldier dies in combat because he wasn't there, the blood of that soldier will be on him for the rest of his life, but then I guess he doesn't care. I hope they lock him up until everyone comes back.

I think he's doing the right thing. After 10 years in the navy, I'm getting out because of what's going on. I know of several people who got out because of the Iraq invasion. Including a Captain that was up fro admiral.

ok, so why do these people join the military anyways? like what makes them think they can choose the war they want to be in, last I heard it was an all VOLUNTEER military, if you can't live up to your obligation you should be in Levinworth prison..and who the hell say's this is an illegal war anyways, did Hussien live up to the cease fire agreement that he agreed to, NO he did not !! no way thias is an illegal war, people listen to the Anti-Bush laberal media wayyy to much..

Lt. Watada has unquestionable military bearing. He is a brave patriot who i am very proud of.

He's chickening out, he knew what he was getting into.

He doesn't believe it's an illegal war, he's too scared to go to a warzone.

And that's all there is to it.
