Yes! Yes! Yes! It literally lowered my grandmother's cholesterol in less than 6 weeks. And i'm talking about a significant decrease here! She was on lipitor for years and experienced nasty side effects like devastating muscle pains. She stopped taking it about 9 months ago and started using Red Yeast Rice. In less than 6 weeks, her 'bad cholesterol' decreased by 19% and her 'good' cholesterol increased at a moderate rate.

Because of the positive effects it had on my grandmother, my uncle and his wife also started to take it as well and they've experienced the same positive effects.

I advise you to try it out, but don't take it while on prescription drugs. You also should take it with CoQ10, another excellent dietary supplement because RYR tend to interfere with the natural CoQ10 in your body.

Niacin is another excellent remedy for high cholesterol. And you can purchase a combination of Red Yeast Rice, CoQ10 and No-flush Niacin (a two months supply) for about 20 bucks at vitacost.com. Look for the brand, Nutraceutical Sciences Institute...That is what my relatives use. The folks behind NSI are all conventional doctors who promote natural remedies for better health.

Here are additional natural remedies that will lower your cholesterol:

Glucomannan (A plant fiber) - Also helps with losing weight and stabilizing blood sugar

Vitamin B5 a.k.a Pantethine

Chromium

Psyllium

Here are a couple of quotes about red yeast rice from the scientific literature.

"...a double-blind placebo-controlled trial of CRYR (Chinese Red Yeast Rice) supplement in 80 individuals demonstrated a significant decrease in cholesterol levels from 250 mg/dL to 210 mg/dL over 8 weeks independent of diet." - researchers at the UCLA school of medicine in the J. of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, Dec. 2005

"...red yeast rice ...(and several other herbs) ...have been extensively studied and have demonstrated reductions in total serum cholesterol levels of between 10% and 33%." - J. of Family Practice, June 2003.

Hope this is helpful. Best wishes.

Don't know anything about that, but watching what you eat, like pork, fried foods, fatty hamburger meat, and also exercising. Fiber is also a great way to lower you cholesterol and we could all use more fiber in our diet. Soluable fiber is the best. Walmart and other stores may carry this brand called fiber choice.
