Most remotes require you to reset the code on it. If its your cable tv remote then call your cable company and they will be able to tell you the code and how to put it in

I had the same problem about a week ago, and when new batteries did not solve the problem, we unpluged the TV for an hour and then pluged it back in, That cleared up the problem. Still don't know what the problem was, but it is working fine now. If your tv has newer features you may need to reset some of the options after plugging the set back in.

If your remote control is a universal remote, you need to program it for your tv. you need to enter a code, which you can find at the remote control company's website. Sometimes there are more than one code for a particular brand (sony, etc.)and you would need to see which one works, not all of them do.
on the other hand if your remote came with the tv, then i am not sure, but it may be that it short circuited...

Try reprogramming it. If that doesn't work the transmitter may have gone bad. This does happen in remote controls. I work in consumer electronics and see it happen all the time. You can either go through the manufacturer to get an exact replacement (best buy also offers this on their website on the bottom go to order parts, circuit city might as well) or go with a universal.

well one question for you does your remote control to many things? if so when you put in new batteries it resets and you have to program it again with codes that should have come in the manual. if not then a remote like the one i was talking about is like only 10 bucks and can control like 4 things(less remotes to worry about lol) so give that a try

You can test whether your remote is transmitting by amening it at an old AM radio. You Will hear a pulsing sound from the speakers if it is transmitting. If it is broken generally either the crystal or the led has broke loose from the circuit board.

Very possible that the remote sensor on the TV itself has failed. I see that all the time. Pretty cheap fix.

If your remote has a "TV" button, try pressing that, then try to change the channel, volume or whatever is was you needed to do.
