I have read many books on near death experiences and they differ from person to person, I think it has alot to do with your upbringing and what you believe, or are taught. Another really good book to read if you're interested is Return From Tomorrow by George G. Ritchie he has an experience where he goes to several places and one is what he is basically told is HELL. The best answer I could give to you is to study the scriptures and PRAY to have a better understanding of whatever you're looking for. It's like this, you could take 10 people and put them someplace they've never been, then ask each of them to tell you about it. NO answer would be the same. I really believe that hell will be different to each person that actually encounters it. I have to say, that I really don't need to know all the details, I know enough to know that it's NO place I want to go. Therefore I live a good life trying to follow in the Saviors footsteps. Love all those around me and try to keep the commandments and when I screw up I pray and ask forgiveness and apply the Atonement in my life. Through Jesus Christ I can be found spotless, therefore I take hope and comfort in knowing that I won't have to face eternal torment. Good Luck to you and may you find the answers that you are looking for.

I think someone is mistaken. Hell is Sheol or the grave. Death and Hell are going to be thrown into the lake of fire where Satan and all his cronies are bound for. Then we read that after the judgment, all who did not have their name written in the book of life are cast into the lake of fire also. Revelation 20:10-15 Read it yourself. I have never found reference in the Bible that Hell is a place of punishment by fire or any other device. But, obviously the lake of fire is not going to be a picnic. The author is on the right track but has his places of occurrence mixed up.
This is a very interesting subject that has been in confusion for some time. It's time to set the record straight. Grab a Bible and read it for yourself. Get an exhaustive concordance and look up everything on Hell, lake of fire, Sheol, grave etc. You will be amazed.

Yes. And there is another book entitled "Beyond Deaths Door" by Maurice Rawlings. The book documents similar encounters with the afterlife. Great reading for any skeptics.

I would have to say that it is fiction because the only way to truly experience "hell" is to die and end up there. But then again, everyone has there own version of hell.
I would say, read it to get something out of it (ie what can you take and apply to life to get the most out of it) but not to take it to heart.
Its like that expression, "Take it with a gain of sand"

Im not sure if this book is true or not, but remember that anyone can claim anything or any story to be true, while it is completely false. Use your best judgement and common sense, and if you dont have any--no offense--hopefully someone else can give you some insight.

I wouldn't recommend it. All you have to do is read this passage from the Bible.
Luke 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Besides, I'm a lot more interested in Heaven than in Hell. If you want to read about a couple of visions that people have had of Heaven then go to the Free Stuff page at http://web.express56.com/~bromar/ and check out the book that you can read on line called The Judgment Seat of Christ. In addition to the authors recounting of his vision he includes the testimony General William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army gave about a vision God gave to him of Heaven. It's really interesting and it's only a couple of clicks away.
Booth's vision is at the very end of the book I think.

I dunno. I'm not real big on that kind of book... they seem very commercial. If you wanna read a good story of literally 'to hell and back' read the Inferno. You have to examine things like that and prayerfully consider whether you believe them or not... don't go by me. I don't know.
