Try to say "no". Saying "no" to ridiculous demands, unrealistic expectations from others and yourself can change things. MADforMac has the right idea. Take care of yourself. Get out of the office regularly. If you're burned out you're not good for anyone, especially yourself. Plus life itself seems like a big drag when your energy is zapped from non-stop job stress.

A feeling of being in control could help your energy level!! Learning to say no with compassion and firmness will be a big step. Don't become upset towards unreasonable requests, set a boundary. Negotiate what is workable within the schedule. Get some distance. Ask your superior for additional help or time. If they respond postiviely because they value your work it may resolve some of the issues.

Take a vacation from work, even if it's only 3 or 4 days in a row.

If those suggestions don't help turn it around start looking for other work.

If you are old enough or have worked long enough to qualify, retire. Otherwise, get a complete physical and ask your doctor what to do. At the very least, take a multi-vitamin, get some sunshine and exercise every day and start taking a "I don't give a damn attitude." If you didn't care so much, you wouldn't be feeling burned out. Do your assignments, not your's and everybody elses, be pleasant, don't gossip or get caught up in the office politics. Focus on the pleasant things that you will do when you leave the office. Step away from your desk and take a break by walking outside, take a deep breath, look at the sky, trees, etc. Try walking for at least 10 minutes, don't think about what is back at your desk, really be in the moment and take in what you see that is pleasant.

Do this at least 2 times per day, depending on if it is an 8 hour work day. Don't eat at your desk, get out of the building and again, concentrate on nothing having to do with work. Savor your food, enjoy relaxing, take another short walk.

Aromas like citrus (orange or lemon) help to refresh, a natural orange spray you can get at a health foods store or Trader Joe's.

Make sure you are keeping yourself hydrated (water, not coffee and sodas).

Don't work ridiculous hours, it isn't worth it, life is more than work and money.

If you've already burnt out, then there's nothing to do other than slack off until they fire you. Then go get another job. If you feel overworked and about to burn out, start looking for another job. Keep up the good work ethic until you find a new job. When you start getting call backs, schedule your interviews for all around the same time. If you can get them all within one work week ask for a week off, go to the interveiws on your days off. You'll be better for it since you won't be rushing off right after work and you can be more relaxed since you weren't at work. Once you secure your new job, give notice (2 weeks is a courtesy, but in all reality you don't have to give squat if you've already secured the new job, besides would they give you 2 weeks notice if they were going to fire you?), keep up the good work ethic, then leave and start your new job. Take stimulants like NoDoz and drink energy drinks to keep up your energy levels at work too.
