I considered it after I miscarried by second baby. But God saw me through the grieving process.
Bottom line is that no theory of existence operates without faith in something. There are no absolute, hard facts as to how life started. My faith is in God.

I did, in 1989.
Turned around in 1998.
I have found that almost all the trouble I had regarding religion, was caused by my lack of knowledge of the Bible.
The misconceptions that I was indoctrinated with from youth, were difficult to let go of. But doing so made it possible to be guided by Bible facts rather than the myths and contradictions created by false interpretation.

I was a practicing Christian for over thirty years.
Atheism is the only logical choice.
But, it is not for everyone. It requires a great deal of strength to be an atheist.
You no longer have an excuse for your "sins," nor do you have a crutch to use when times are hard.
Just a fair warning from an atheist who made that difficult transition.

That you should go see a shrink. Why all the hate and anger and agression. What has happened to make you so bitter and hateful towards Christians? NO, I WILL NEVER stop believing in GOD, or His Son Jesus Christ. Especially if it would make me be like you. I'm sorry for whatever has happened and hope that one day you find the gentle peace and reassurance that comes only from having GOD and Jesus Christ in your life.

be careful. I hope that you find the truth. There is some hard stuff to deal with or understand wether you're a christian or not. Don't give it up just because of those things. If you are not reading your bible daily, going to a bible believing church regularly, and praying to God daily then you are subjecting yourself to false teachings.

There are many possible reasons for the cynicism. But be mindful of some things:
1) The church is not christianity. The church is an impoerfect bunch of people who will fail to live up to what God says in the bible. Because of the failures of the church, people have been hurt by others in the church, have been political victims in the church, etc. and they have been shown bad witness. Any time anyone who says they are a christian does not live according to the bible it is the person who has failed you, not christianity. The solution is to find a community that is genuinely in the spirit and truth of God's character, and who live according to what God says.
2) Christianity is a relationship with a real God, not an academic concept. Many people need to be convinced from evidence that God is real and that he is who He says He is. And that Jesus is the son of God, and that he died and rose again. There is something good and healthy in asking these questions, but be careful it doesn't become a cynical exercise. At some point you will have to make a decision to believe by faith that this God is real, and no matter how much one researches, there has to be a point of belief and trust in the promises of God, or not. This is where testimonies come in, accounts shared by people of what happened when they gave their life to Jesus. Be convinced and make a step to believe God.
3) Mindset does determine your spiritual condition. While the lack of evidence of God in people can lead to disbelief, it also works the other way round - lack of belief in God leads to a mindset that defines a reality without a God. That is why people spend time reading the word of God, and worship him in songs and memorise scripture and meet in churches with other people to look at the word of God. When one's mind is fed with the truth of the reality of God, they begin to believe God is real and make decisions based on that reality. This is also true in reverse - you believe in somthing else that isn't true and that can become your reality. The question is then which truths are real truths, and which ones are good for you. The ones in the bible are both real and true taken as a whole.
4) Expect the miraculous. Part of the problem with a lot of doubt in the reality of God is that people limit what God can do by limiting what they believe He can do. Although God is omnipotent, the rules are that he will not likely work through a person who does not exercise faith in His promises.
And a key part of living by God's power is that one must be led by the Spirit as it says in Galatians 5-6 or somewhere. No-one really welcomes the Holy Spirit anymore in traditional churches. They don't believe in the reality of spiritual gifts as being for today, nor do they believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit, as read in Acts and also when John the Baptist said in Luke. We cannot live the truths of the bible without POWER. Yet many christians have the truth but are not fed in their spirits but only their minds.
Reading the bible and studying it feeds the mind; it does not feed one's spirit. Only the Holy Spirit can fill that emptiness, and we need to ask and believe the Holy Spirit to fill us with himself, with his POWER. Read Acts, follow what people did when they asked for power - they prayed and expected the miraculous. Too many christians leave christianity because they had truth but were starved of power to live it out. In that situation the christian life becomes a burden and a torture. It was always meant to be lived with the Holy SPirit working through you, not you working in your own strength.
When the Holy Spirit baptises a person (pray for that) it also connects them to God in a real, tangible, intimate way. God is no longer theory, academic, distant, but real, close and personal. It begins to highlight the word of God in ways you couldn't see before. You begin to see what a lot of things mean in the bible that didn't make sense without the Holy SPirit. A lot of things fall into place.
5) Realise the source of your mindset. It can come from an emptiness of spirit; it can come through bad church experiences, which are not the same as what is supposed to be according to the bible; it could be unhelpful ideas that sound true but in reality are not. It could be a gap between what is believed and what is seen in your own life. Whatever the reason, realise that God IS real, and work from there. Your situation is to be acknowledged too, so the answer has to be something that is missing between these absolutes. The reasons I've suggested are usually the most common ones.

No. I found out that there really is a God, and I'd be a fool to deny the obvious.
