I'm getting a dog at the end of the summer. I want something kind of small, but that is energetic but not yappy, loyal, and you can really connect with. Any ideas?

Although they're not very small, greyhounds make incredibly good pets. Retired race dogs have earned the right to a good home by merely surviving the tortures that these dogs endure.

I had a retired greyhound. He was by far the best dog I've ever owned. Loyal, loving, great w/ kids, these gentle dogs make great pets. Give one a home!

Energetic dog? Are you willing to commit to a high strung, tons of energy-type of dog? You might consider a Jack Russell Terrier? They're very energetic, small.......and as for loyal & connecting with, well, all dogs will provide that. Your lifestyle have to match the dog you're looking for. Try looking up the AKC site & go through which small breed would suit you.
Have fun with your dog at the end of the summer.

If you are going to the shelter to get a dog spend a little time with the dog to see how they react to you. YOU may want a dog but remember, the dog must also WANT you

Try getting a pug, they are very loyal and will be a lap dog or an excercise partner, they dont grow too big, and they have a wonderful face. I have one named jake.

I have a Pomeranian and she is the best. She is smart. Very energetic. Protective, if she hears a sound she will get up and see what it is and start barking.

Pit bulls aren't all that big and they meet your other requirements. Their nice dogs too if you raise them right. It's when people train them to be mean that they get mean.
