After Martin Luther King? What? After Lincoln and the Emancipation Proclamation January 1, 1863
Abraham Lincoln's executive declaration pronouncing that all persons held as slaves in areas in rebellion against the United States would henceforth be free? What? Ok, it took some time but you must know many tribes in Africa also captured and kept slaves and even sold them long before it was going on here. .
Celebrate Independence Day with everyone else. Its why your still here isn't it? Or pick January 1st if thats your beef.

They are Americans and celebrate the Nation's History. There would never have been a President Lincoln had America not won Independence from England.
Many Americans ancestry came through Ellis Island...will you permit them to celebrate?

What they are not Americans. Do they not enjoy the same rights as all Americans. The fourth of July is a American holiday not a ethnic Holiday. Also dippie there were Free Black men during the American revolution. Not every Black person in this country comes from slave roots. Or are you wise enough to separate the two distinct classes of Black Americans and only or not allow the folks of a non slave past to celebrate the fourth.

Would you just give it a rest?! You're always complaining about discrimination and all that! It's over. You are an American. Stop trying to put it down! Be proud of it! Stop telling people they're being racists for that! YOU are the racist if you keep saying that! YOU are the one discriminating. If anything, I should be asking why there is not a day for celebrating 'White' people like this so called 'Black History Month'. Get over yourself. I'm not racist, but people like you are the ones who are and try to convince the rest of the country that everyone else is racist against you, even though YOU WERE NEVER A SLAVE!!! And what does it matter? You're living in the greatest country in the history of the world! Stop complaining!!! The war is over! It's just you people who insist it carry on!

Actually Martin Luther King Jr., which is who I am assuming you are speaking of and not Martin Luther founder of the Lutheran Church, had nothing to do with freeing the slaves. Slavery was abolished with Lincoln's proclamation. Now in reference to your question, if they are truly African Americans, with American being the key word, they too should be happy that we are no longer under the rule of the British monarchy because it allowed us to create our own government and eventually allow for Lincoln to abolish Slavery in the United States of America

In 1770, Crispus Attucks, a black man, became the first casualty of the American Revolution when he was shot and killed in what became known as the Boston Massacre. Although Attucks was credited as the leader and instigator of the event, debate raged for over as century as to whether he was a hero and a patriot, or a rabble-rousing villain.

So yes African Americans should Celebrate American Independence!

Celebrating Independence day has nothing to do with race. It is the celebration of the United States gaining their independence and ALL Americans should celebrate that.

AFRICAN AMERICANS HAVE RIGHTS TODAY. THIS INCLUDES CELEBRATING AMERICAS INDEPENDENCE FROM ENGLAND. EVEN THOUGH AFRICANS WERE ENSLAVED DURING THE REVOLUTION THEY SHOULD BE GRATEFUL THAT WE WON THAT WAR. THAT ALLOWED THE U.S. TIME TO SET UP THE CONSTITUTION AND THE EVENTS THAT LED UP TO THE CIVIL WAR THAT ENDED SLAVERY! MARTIN LUTHER HELPED IN THE LIBERATION OF AFRICAN AMERICANS. SO PLEASE TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR COUNTRY AND CELEBRATE THESE HOLIDAYS, BECAUSE TODAY WE ARE ALL AMERICANS WORKING TOGETHER TO MAINTAIN OUR FREEDOM. IT MATTERS NOT WHERE YOU CAME FROM, OR WHAT YOUR ANCESTORS HAD TO GO THROUGH, ONLY THAT YOU ARE A CITIZEN OF THE GREATEST COUNTRY THAT HAS EVER EXISTED. TODAY YOU ARE FREE, AND APART OF THIS WONDERFUL DEMOCRACY. SO YES ALL RACES SHOULD CELEBRATE THE INDEPENDENCE OF THE COUNTRY THEY CALL HOME!

Juneteenth-when the last slaves (Galveston,Texas) got the word about freedom(2 years after the fact). We celebrate 4th of July also. Our freedom in America began with America's freedom. Crispus Attucks (a black Man)was one of the first to die for the American revolution. He gathered a crowd of 100 angry colonists and went to confront the British soldiers after hearing about a young boy that had been beaten by a British soldier with his musket. Peace.
