I'd like to get a little more muscle tone in my torso-area, but I also am lazy and don't have room for all sorts of equipment. So, I was thinking of starting on a regimine of home-style exercising, ie pushups, situps, etc. Do those really make that much of an impact, and will it take an incredibly long amount of time to see any difference?

That's the problem I always had in the past. I would exercise and not see any results, get discouraged, and give up.

Speaking of which, does anyone have any tips on staying motivated, especially when the results you're working towards are a long time in coming?

When I was locked up I lost forty pounds just by doing sit-ups jumping jacks and push ups. Not kidding!!! I did it every night and increased the amount I did everyday as well.
I started out doing 25 sit-ups 25 push-ups 75 jumping jacks
and by the end.....200 200 700

Motivation .. ARNI TRAINING VIDEOS!!!

Ok.. firstly .. go to gym.. stop being lazy. secondly definition.. try doing some weight resistance./. chest relies heavily on weight training for proper definition.. so do shoulders... although you can get good results out of light weights for shoulders medium to heavy is also very recommended.
If you do pushups you can only get so much out of it.... It will give you definition alright.. but well.. nothing grand. Pushuos should not b excluded out of working out though.
Bst motoivation comes out of compliments of others i suppose.. people who have not seen you in a long time will notice most change.
If you want good ersults go with the weight training.. body resistance is pathetic for good heavy changes.
ALSO get a partner gto train with you if you can.. same sex preferably as it is very different training with someone of different physique.

I think pilates would be good for you. Get a video. I personally like the one from Leslie Sansone. After you have done the work out a few times and you don't need to hear what she is saying, mute it and listen to some music you really like. If you are interested in getting her video, I'd get it from amazon.
