I've pondered this question for a while and heard politicians points on this topic as well as fanatics for each side now i want to hear regular people's opinions. Is there nothing we can do about the illegal population "we're here to stay"? Should we close the borders and ship everyone back? Should we stop the inflow but let the ones here become citizens because America started this way . DECIDE

Illegal Immigration and the Pros and cons of Mexicans in America are two different topics.
Illegal is Illegal, period, the person broke the law, and a sound one for sound reasons at that.
Mexicans in America Pros & Cons? Are they capable, educated, industrious, taxpaying and Legal? Can't get enough of them!
Stopping Illegal Immigration has a much to do with the Security and control of our borders, as it does with regulating the population, especially in terms of disease, crime and the flood of low skill individuals. If there were no, (or less) Illegals, companies would be forced to pay a legitimate wage to people to do the jobs traditionally held by illegals. Their being here depresses the wage scales below what should be paid for general labor, and that has a ripple effect on other semi-skilled wages as well.

I believe if an illegal has established a job here in America and is willing to pay taxes from his/her wages just like every other citizen then I believe that they should be allowed to become citizens and stay here. As far as everyone who wants to come to America they need to apply the appropriate way to enter the states find a job and apply for citizenship. I know this will probably hurt our economy because all of the employers will have to stop paying cents on the dollar non reported money and will have to actually support someone as a regular employeee. Which means they are going to rasie the price of there goods and services to make up the difference which will be harder on the working people.

We subsidize education and health care (and other services) for poor people here even if they pay all taxes. Poor immigrants are a net economic drain, and a dramatic drain on education and services in areas where they concentrate. That is why we like all other developed countries limit the number of poor immigrants that can come. Our own education is failing in border states, and our health care and other benefits are failing nationally, with the baby boomer generation set to retire soon. We can't afford this many.

We can't afford anything like the Senate Bill. That would drain the middle class, rob our own children of upward mobility through education and our sick of health care. We would end up with a thin upper crust and a massive, uneducated lower class.

Any policy we adopt needs to plug the leak so it doesn't get worse during the debate. Then it needs to make sure that education and services will be provided for before any increase in immigration through amnesty or guest worker program is allowed.

As a start, it needs to cut off the 'family reunification preferences' that multiplies by 4+ the number of every 'accounted for' part of the quotas currently being discussed in the Senate Bill. That is simply dishonesty on the part of our politicians.

I think we should give amnesty to those who have been here showing they are productive citizens able to support themselves and their families and contributing to society in a positive way.

I just want to make a point on freedom....Everyone talks about how wonderful our freedoms are and what they mean to us. However, freedom without diversity cannot exist. Was Nazi Germany a free society? No the people didn't want diversity, they scorned Jews and minorities and ultimately resulted in Hitler ruling that country through dictatorship. There was a lot of racism in Germany before Hitler ever came into the picture.

So I say, be careful what you wish for....If you dont want illegal immigrants who are just here for a better life, who will be next? We may be going down that slippery slope.

I have lived in Calfornia my whole life. I have no problem with people coming from ANY WHERE to improve the quality of their lives (my relatives ,as well as most americans, are previous immigrants)....
My problem, HOWEVER, is the constant CATERING to hispanics that is out-of-hand... the speaking SPANISH, the birth population.....those two things I do not like!!! Learn English and control how many kids you plan on having THE GOVERNMENT take care of... If you are not working, how can you keep on having babies and expect the government to take care of them and be an ILLEGAL ALIEN???

Mexican's in the US Legally is great!

They work hard
They pay taxes
They contribute to our economy

Mexican's here Illegally is terrible!

They work hard
They do not pay tax
They take services they are not paying for
They disrupt the economy by working against the system

I'm all for Mexican immigrants and all against illegal aliens who do not want to follow the rules and make the other Mexican's look bad.

YES, we need to close the border, and SEAL IT SHUT!!!!!!!!!! NO AMNESTY for ILLEGALS!!! Amnesty is REWARDING CRIMINAL behavior!! DEPORT all illegals!!

There IS something we can do!! We go after these SCUMBAGS that hire them!! Start FINING and ARRESTING,these idiots, and THAT will put a stop to it!!!!
NO jobs= NO illegals!!

And,as for the ones that have been here for MANY years, they need to be DEPORTED too!!! Is a person who robs a BANK, STILL a bank robber twenty years from now?? Of course he is!! So, no matter HOW long an illegal has lived here,he is STILL a criminal lawbreaker!!!

pros.....
economy depend on illegal immigrants
they fill most of our jobs
if it was not for them working for low wedges most compenies would send there wrk over seas where people wrk for low wedges(china, japan, india, pakistan)
cons......
they take our jobs some times..

i dont think we can close the border permently.....after all how long can our troops just out there on the border and there are other ways too....

no i dont think we should dend them all back cuz they are humans after all, cant just ship em off like a cargo...but i dont think we should make em legal either if they dont have a job...its just one of the things we should just let it be........

or as long as they pay texes like regualr citizens there is no way y they should not be legal....as long as they abide by the law and have a job and a house and all they should be legal....

I believe that to grant the past illegals citizenship is fine. However, to be granted citizenship they must pay back taxes from the time the entered the country and started employment. If they or their children enjoyed any of the benefits of being in the U.S. (schools, health care, fire and police protection.) then they need to reimburse the state/government before they get citizenship.

There are no Pros, just cons that break the law. For the most part, alot of these illegals don't want citizenship. They just want the free ride ese.
