he told me that they were identical. one has 37verses. the other 38verses. who is the author of 2 kings anyway

First and second Kings are the 500 year history of Israels kings, the different prophets wrote the books they prophesized. When Isaiah was prophet there were four different kings, the first verse of Isaiah tells you that. It's not so much that there are two chapters that are identical as there were two different writers writing about the same events. You will probably find other places that tell the same thing as what you read in Kings I and II

that could be very true in the same way that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are basically all the same except written by different people and from different points of view.
