Well, when you're still a fetus in your mum's womb, your belly button is the spot where your umbilical cord comes out and connects you to the placenta, which is how you get nutrients while you grow. Once you're born, the umbilical cord is cut and the remainder shrivels up and falls off. The belly button you have now is the "scar" that remains.
When people have belly buttons repositioned after surgery, it's just an aesthetic thing. You'd look really weird if your belly button was too low, too high or off-centre.

There is no use for it, but as mentioned in earlier anwers, it 's how you were kept alive while growing in-utero through the umbilical cord that gave you nourishment. The remaining socket known as the belly button is God's way of reminding you about the miracle of life...and wouldn't it look really silly not to have one, since it's the only way we are used to seeing our tummy's?

It is not important after birth. Before birth, it's how the nutrients get from the mother to the baby. Surgeons reposition it because people want to look like everyone else. They try to make the patient look as natural as possible.

Once you are born it is of no use however surgeons reposition the navel because you would look very strange if it was on your side or missing altogether. It's not something you notice until it's not there..... Oh , i see Hannah has already said this.

It's a leftover scar from the umbilical cord which is how you received nourishment in the womb. It was once extremely importsnt, but now you just don't want it to look funny.

It is where the umbilical cord was cut when you were born. It doesn't do anything. They reposition it after surgery so that the person will look normal.
