Canine is the group Dogs are in..Cats are Felines...Horses Are Equine..Cows are Bovine They just shorten the word to K-9

I think the Army started it K-9 short for canine My uncle trained Army dogs at Fort Robinson Ne. also German pow's were kept there.

I think its talking about the teeth of the species being dog its another name for dog but it has something to with their teeth!
