I seem to just exist. I am estranged from my family and that can't be fixed so many of the activities I used to enjoy with them are gone. I have no real friends and work evenings and weekends so I get restless during the day and on my days off. I work, shop, clean house, and go to the mall but there must be more to life than this. I spend way to much time online but I really haven't anything else to do. I don't have any money so I can't do alot of stuff. I used to go to the library but it is closed for remodeling for several months. Does anyone else have a life like this or is everyone elses life a blast?

Nope, nope. I'm have a useless meaningless life too. Go to work, monday-friday, 9a-9p. I usually just go home after work, then smoke some weed, sleep, then wake up for work the next morning. Its a never ending cycle that I wish could just end already, dammit.
All my friends have boyfriends or husbands with babies and stuff like that.....seems like everyone else has the life but me.

YOU'RE NOT ALONE!!!

I think alot of us here (on answers all the time) are going through much the same thing.

I have pretty much the same story as you, except I work from home and have 3 kids, ages 3, 8, and 12, that I'm raising on my own. I don't even make it to the mall !! lol ....

One thing I've found that I love to do, and it makes me feel more "useful" outside of my little family, is going to the local nursing home here and just spending a little time. It was a little rough at first (those places can be scary), but it really made me appreciate my life more. Now I bring a few color books and colors, some old magazines (for the men and the ladies), and just find someone who looks like they could use a friend. I even bake cookies (always sugar-free, there's a lot of diabetes around there), and hand them out in little bags. Especially around the holidays ... Father's and Mother's Day, Easter, Valentines, Thanksgiving, Christmas ... some of these people have no family at all and they will look forward to seeing you again. You don't have to be born into a family to be "family".

When I'm really blue, I pick up a Harry Potter book and get lost in it.

You can write me at crickets1117@yahoo.com if you want a "penpal" to share stories with. My name is Jen :)

I understand your situation. Don't be envious, most other people don't think their own lives are a blast, either, even if they seem to you to be better than yours.

You say you can't fix the estrangement from your parents but is that really true? Can't you at least visit or have a dinner with them once in a while?

And your town probably has things you can do for low cost, like visiting museums once or twice a month as a special treat. You need some variety even if you can't do it every day. Want me to send you some good mysteries I've read and don't need to keep any more?

What is your field of work? Why are you estranged from your family? You don't need a lot of friends, just one or two really good ones, I suggest you work on a relationship with a work buddy, maybe cook dinner together on weekends. There is a bunch of material to read on the Internet, you do not have to subscribe to, just register with different magazines and newspapers and TV channels and you can access there latest articles, maybe not get the entire magazine, but you get enough of it. My older sister and my Mother have both died within the past 5 years and my family has disintegrated right before my eyes. It is very painful--all this change, I want them back and everything to be like it was, The fact is we can't have it back, you must move forward and try not to make the same mistakes as you go along. You might need a different job!

I did at one point, and had to force myself to do other things. I go to church, and am the 1st female member of the men's garden club. My yard is immaculate, plus I garden for a living.

I have forced myself to get over my phobias for the most part and smile and say hello to alot of people in the public sector.

I would not say my life is a blast, I am 47 years old, I do not drink alcohol or use illicit drugs. The majority of my family is a 24 hour's drive away, and yes I am estranged as well. I do alot of reading in my spare time. I probably spend waaaay too much time on the internet too.

I try to do something worthwhile for someone less fortunate than myself once a day even if it is to tell a joke or give asked for advice.

I hope things look up for you in the future.

Your "useless" life has provided answers to 29 people who were in need. They asked a question on YA and you responded. They chose YOUR advice and/or opinion over hundreds more that were offered. Maybe you were their lifeline.
You need to take some of the money you spend at the mall and pay for a good psychiatric evaluation. It is crystal clear that you are depressed, but only a diagnostic psychiatrist can figure out why and get you the help you need to regenerate your spirit.
Thank you for asking this question. It is questions like yours that help give my life meaning. Good Luck !

Nope. The part about you work, eat, chores, sleep? Welcome to life! I probably go out and have a blast maybe once a month, twice if I'm lucky. As for your boredom online, pick up an online hobby. I help run a free online poker league designed for people who wants to learn the game, interact with other people on the continent, and just not worry about things for a while. Check it out on the bottom.

Oh, and if anyone wants to report abuse on me for advertisement, I got news for you: I don't even get paid for running that league. HA!

I know where you are coming from. I work two jobs and I am in school.....Plus I live in a new area so I do not really know anyone.

One thing I have learned so far is that you have to try new things and meet new people to get out of the boring routine of daily life.

Kind of have to put yourself "out there" meaning go out and be outgoing. Not like annoying but confident. All good.

Good luck!!!
