I work in a call center & the only people that need translators are spanish and not nearly as much second would be portugeese for all the brazilian's now in the country.
Every other customer who were brought up else where & have since come to America have learned English. Many customers tell me how irritating it is to hear the prompt 1 for English and 2 for Spanish. Based on what I hear your idea will never go over not yet anyway.
Perhaps when whites are no longer the majority in this country will it begin to be a possibility. By then it will too late for this country and it will become another cesspool just like where the new majority came from.

First off there are so many ways to speak Spanish. Different countries speak it in different ways such as Mexicans speak a different kind of Spanish than Hondurans.
Another thing is that their syllables are so much different than ours in the English language. Not to mention their adjectives and nouns come in different areas of the sentences. As well as the difference in speaking when you are referring to women or men.
Lots of differences. It really IS a difficult language. But yes we would all benefit these days from being bilingual no doubt.

Sure it would but so would it be the same for German, or French or Arabic. How many do you think we should learn? You didn't say how you feel. How do you feel about the taxes you pay going to the extra pay for teachers having to learn to teach English as a second language. Its mandatory for them (300 hours) because there are so many illegals going to our schools. I understand most illegals came here legally and never left but where do you draw the line? Learn English or American whatever you want to call it. Its where we live not where we went to and lived.

My home language is Spanish. You can learn Spanish the same way I learn English. Is the same difficulty. Or not? Refuse to learn a second, third or fourth language is a sign of ignorance or unopened mind.

If you are not going to travel outside the U.S. you shouldn't have to speak spanish. When I go to Mexico, which is 10 to 12 times a year, I don't expect them to speak English to me. It's their country and they deserve the respect from me to speak tp them in their own tounge. I do the same wherever I go. I may not be fluent, but I can speak enough of their language to be able to ask questions and know what's going on. When they come here it should be the same way. Out of respect for our culture, and our history, we deserve the same. It all boils down to respect. Sadly. our country makes excuses for the rest of the world, and allows our own people to suffer. Remember the fall of the Roman empire my fellow americans. You are witnessing the fall of ours.

It may not be hard for some but would be hard for others. If I were to choose to make my home in a Spanish speaking country then I would learn to speak Spanish. Are you saying let them come here and us change our ways and learn to speak their language to make it easier on them?

I can but refuse to. The official language of the United States of America is English, not Spanish, Korean, Japanese or any other language. Our language is English learn it or stay silent.
