since day one people worship the higher being: God the Creator of all (although with different names). Some people worship spirits.

How come there're atheists now? I feel like bunch of them are just people who got disappointed at God. And duh - that means they believe in God. It's just that they're in the "pouting" mode right now. Even Nitsche said "God is dead." indicating that he knows that there is God but he just thinks that he is dead. Which further indicates that there is God.

Opinions?
(not bashing anybody here, just questioning)

You made some really insightful comments! Things I hadn't thought of before. You must be a pretty intelligent, thinking person. Good for you!

As for why are there atheists now? My personal opinion: There aren't. Just arrogant people--until they're in trouble.

You've heard the old saying "There are no atheists in a fox hole?"

I don't how Atheism began, but it has probably been around for about as long as Theism.

To say you know beyond doubt that there is no such thing as God is as arrogant as claiming that you know beyond doubt that there is such a thing as God. It is not logically possible to answer either question other than by faith. If you are both logical and honest you can only claim not to know (agnostic). I would find the idea of God highly unlikely if only I could answer the question of first cause.

I also question the commonly accepted definition of God: omniscient, omnipresent, all powerful, and omnibenevolent. I think humans tend to anthropomorphize God. They think of God as some guy with the aforementioned qualities. Myself I think that if God exists then all that there is is God. And I think it is entirely likely that such a God would be quite indifferent to any of our opinions on the subject.

Be good to yourselves and each other.

People define atheism, in it's present day form as anyone who doesn't believe God exists. But it started as a reaction to Theism, which put the King as the representive of God, and the state as his property. The Bible records Nimrod as the first of these tyrants. Israel is a Theocracy. Many Muslim states are Theocracies. The Vatican is a Theocracy. The USA was conceived as anti-theocracy. I am a Christian, living in a pluralistic society, and I love it.

Do you believe Santa Claus exists?

Did you ever believe Santa Claus existed?

Did you stop believing Santa Claus exists because you got mad, or because you learned better?

I am an atheist because I practiced Christianity for over thirty years and studied history & religion.

It is possible "God" exists, but if he does, he is useless for any practical purpose. And, the concept that an invisible creator created anything, or controls events throughout the universe is silly.

Atheism is the only logical choice.

Atheists have been persecuted and executed more than any other group throughout all history. The Catholic church & Church of England not only persecuted & executed atheists, they persecuted & executed anyone who refused to accept the "Trinity" (Jesus is God). And, they did so for over 1,000 years.

^learn to spell first please

There have been atheists all along, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say many of them were killed as pegans by the christians of ancient times.

"god is dead" can simply refer to the fact that one believes the concept of a god had died in many people, not that the actual being has died or ever lived.

Even most of the so called believers are atheists ! Only, they do not have the courage to declare openly ! They find it comfortable to tell themselves that they believe. A true atheist is actually more closer to God , due to his sincere desire to 'look' for him instead of a blind belief.

If you mean Atheism. . . . .. because Apathy is the killer of men's hopes and dreams. Dead is a man who no longer believes in anything. So then Dead is his god.

I think you are right. After reading Q & A's on the site, I now feel that a lot of them are extremely angry and hostile.
Although I have met a few who are mature.
