I think Jesus is one of the most misunderstood people listed in the Bible. So much of what he said has double meanings that have been distorted over time. He had a lot more street-smarts that people (especially Christians) credit him with, and he had a bit of a temper. More than anything, I think he was a guy ahead of his time, who preached a message that would make most Christians today shudder. From what I have gathered, from my own biblical readings, he wasn't telling us to worship HIM...he was telling us that there is no need for worship at all. Our salvation had nothing to do with whether or not we accept him and rise from sin...but whether we follow his example and work our own miracles. If that was truly his message, then it looks like his Crucifixion occurred because he was on the verge of putting a lot of priests out of business.

I beileive he was good then. however some catholics are real jerks and very close minded to other religions. For example I go to a catholic school even though im wiccan and almost every person in my school has at some point made fun of me for believing in something different or has tried to force thier beliefs on me. ive once read in a religion text book refering to athiests " they are in denial of the extistance of god". This is why i think some of his followers should really calm down with the whole jesus is the best believe in him or go to hell and also stop forcing beliefs on people that are perfectly happy with what they follow. now i know most catholics and christians arent like this but i have met a few that are so if you are not like that just disreguard the last bit of this answer

If you go by what the Bible says (after all that is only fair) there are only three possibilities about what kinda of individual Jesus was.
1. Either he was crazy and full of delusions because he thought he was god and he really was not.
2. Either he was an evil person for saying that he was god and knowing he was not but mis-lead all the people that have believed in him.
3. Or, He was indeed who he claimed he was, God.
The Bible is clear that Jesus claimed to be God, so these are the three options.

He was much the same as other rabbis of the time, but his followers claimed he was king of the Jews. Rome appointed the "king of the Jews" and certainly wouldn't tolerate political disturbance by some rabbi.
His teachings are very similar to the pharisees. I don't know why Christians claim he was persecuted by them. Claiming to be the messiah would not have aroused any animosity at all. Jews of the time and into the 19th century claimed to be the messiah. When the claimant dies and there is no peace, their followers continue with their quest for peace on earth.

He was a smart political rebel, and a good leader.

He used the Old Testament phrase "son of god" in such a way as to make it appear literal. He was helped in this by his closest followers who spread palms and arranged to make it appear that he was a reincarnation of a prophet -- which is exactly how it reads.

Which also makes me wonder what happened to those teachings about reincarnation...

He was shrewd in leading the people against the Romans, and had a number of great teachings, most of which are influenced or copied from the Egyptian Horus.

Waas he a real person?

Jesus? Dying?

What is the Imacculate Conception supposed to mean?

(NOT A VIRGIN BIRTH! - betcha never knew that.)

Jesus, the basis of Christianity? .

If Jesus died, he could NOT have been God.

Gods do not die? Do they?

If Jesus 'died' on Friday and 'undied' on Sunday, what else besides Saturday was sacrificed?

Did Jesus give up Saturday for us? Big deal!

If Jesus died for our sins, there should not be any more sins, else why go through with it?.

If Jesus really DIED, he should be dead, dead, dead!

If you swallow this stuff, you are not going to like the folks who don't. You want them to swallow it too.

'Believers' want everyone to convert to their non-thinking.

Believing and not thinking is to choose a mental illness.

its hard to say, the part of the bible that was about jesus was written at least 80 years after his death by people that werent alive in jesus day or have a close relaionship with him, it would be like me trying to write a description about my great grandfather with only a small amount of words. its good for a giggle tho

I don't think Jesus claimed to be immortal at all. He called himself the son of god, yet he called everyone the children of god. He didn't preach of hell, as it is a younger concept. He spread the message that god loved his people and sent along a code of conduct(10 commandments).

A hippie utopian. He didn't bathe, he wore sandals, he swore off all material possessions, he was followed around by a bunch of similarly stinky long-haired guys, he hated violence, and though everyone should just get along. The thought of it makes me quite nauseous.

I don't think that he was all that different from the rest of us, other than that he was really good at sleight of hand and had a bit of a short temper. Other than that, he was your average guy of the time, with a little philosopher thrown in.
