you can use any kind of alcohol that sounds good to you. Here are some ideas:

6oz box Jello
2 cups hot water
1 cup (+/- to taste) desired alcohol

green apple jello (if you can find it, it was discoed by Kraft.) and wild apple vodka

Gin and Lime Jello (one of my favorites!)
Tequila and Lime or Lemon Jello
Light Rum and Berry (Strawberry especially)
Vodka works in any flavor (Blue Jello is cool, so is watermelon)
Use peach Jello and sub Hot OJ for water and use Vodka...YUM
Use Cranberry Jello, Hot Cranberry Juice. Get some dried cranberries and soak them in vodka over night. This turns the vodka a nice red and very flavorful. Then you use the vodka in the jello shot and you can put a few cranberries in the Jello Shot. Way Yum.

Use a flavored rum. The most popular combination I've come across is Coconut Bacardi Rum and lime Jello. If you use a top-shelf liquor, only the fruit flavor shines through, not the alcohol taste (the same is true with flavored vodka). This is especially great for people who do not care for the taste of alcohol, but still want to enjoy it. I've served these dozens of times and people down them without realizing how much liquor is actually in them. I use a slightly larger cup about 2 oz, so that each Jello Shot is equivalent to one regular 1oz shot of straight of liquor. Experiment. Peach Jello/Cruzan Vanilla (Peaches n' Cream), Strawberry Jello/ Cruzan Banana, what ever you like.

You can use Barcardi O for the Orange shots it is a rum and a really great tasting liquor. If you use Gin it will over power the taste of the jello. I would stick to the vodkla just use a good brand and you will not taste it as much. The cheaper the brand the more the yucky taste comes through.

The gin would be great with a citrus jello. I don't care for Vodka either but I still use it in jello shots because it seems to work the best for firmness and it disappears into the jello flavor easily.

everclear is my choice if you want to mess people up fast, but only use 1/4 of the liquid as everclear, rather than the usual half. (1/2 hot water, 1/4 cold water, 1/4 everclear). The suggestion of flavored rums is a good choice too.

Well, since you say you don't like vodka, I'd go with tequila. Jose Cuervo (or the like) goes perfectly with the fruity jello. I'd recommend lime or blueberry jello to mix it with (since those are the best I've tried). Have fun! :o)
