I am getting married soon and we have decided to do it at the courthouse and have a party afterwards. This way the ceremony is just us but our family can participate too. I need party ideas such as food, location, invitations, party favors, etc. . . I have never planned a party much less my wedding celebration.

Well my dear, I think it is a good way to do things. First you will have to take into consideration the season. You will want to use seasonal fruits and vegetables in the food, and flowers in the arrangements not only to create a festive environment but to save some money as well. You also might want to check out a place like Sam's or Costco for food. They have a lot of fully prepared food that you can buy in bulk, which is great for weddings. As for the invitations, you could always go to someplace like Hallmark and get some fun, and inexpensive invitations there, or make them yourself, if there is a stationary store that you know of near where you live. As for the favors, depending on how many people you have coming those can be pricey. I have found a few websites for favors. Here is one example of one- www.simplyelegantfavors.com
Well, I hope this helped, and if all else fails you can ask your best friend(the woman who would have been your maid of honor had you had a ceremony) to help you plan it. I am sure she would be honored, and delighted to help you.I would like to wish you years of happiness and all the best!!!

Depending on where you live and what type of reception you are having you can plan for almost anything. Think about the type of atmosphere you want. I am assuming (and maybe wrong to do so) that since you are getting married in a courthouse and want it to be the two of you that the reception it is a somewhat intimate and friendly affair with close friends and family so you can go relaxed. Have a late afternoon reception with light cocktails and heavy appetizers. If you have a friend or family member with an adequate size house ask them if they would be willing to host, meaning only use the space.

Look into local venues too. The type of reception you have can be determined by your guest list and budget. For my fiance's birthday I through him a surprise party at Pat O'Brians and it was 25 dollars a person, open bar, awesome appetizers. That is less than what two drinks and an app would cost on a night out and I went to Sams and got a big pack of disposable cameras for pictures and placed them on the tables. I went to Party City for decor and the music was XM radio provided by Pat O's. Look into a favorite restaurant and see if they have a party room available. It may seem like a lot per person upfront but think about it this way. You aren't renting linen, silverware, plates, glasses, tableclothes, which can really add up. Most of the time they really help you plan things out. I am having a wedding in March so I know planning can be overwhelming. Just relax and think of this a great opportunity to celebrate with friends and family and add your own personal style to it.

If you have the money to splurge, I'd say hire a party planner. If you are on a tight budget you can do everything by purchasing wholesale including the flowers, party favors and food. Costco is a great place to start with food. Ebay is great to pick out a dress and flowers here: http://www.onlinewholesaleflowers.com/

oh and Congrats!
