A simple Yes or No will do. Just because I want to read that book don't assume im a idiot or druggie as the first 3 answers showed. It just seems like a interesting piece of reading.

Wikipedia says: "The book is largely a FICTIONALized account of Thompson and attorney Oscar Zeta Acosta's actual trip to Las Vegas ..." and later ". . . As is true with most of Thompson’s writing, much of the book is based on actual events, however Thompson altered the details to such a degree that the work could easily be considered FICTION"

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear_and_Loathing_in_Las_Vegas

So, if "Thompson altered the details to such a degree that the work could easily be considered FICTION" ... then it is considered F I C T I O N. In the very least -- it's an embellished piece of nonfiction. But that means fiction.

you may also look to the copyright page at amazon.com, which will not indicate any subject listings to idenify if it is fiction or nonfiction (which many novels do today). Check your copyright page. :)

Otherwise, assume that it is fiction.

Yes-- but of all the great works of non-fiction, why would you want to read this?
It's kind of cool, if you are heavily into drugs, hallucinations, warped humor & sensibilities.
Try strolling over to the library or Barnes & Noble or Borders and check out the non-fiction sections. There are so many more enriching and enlightening works of non-fiction (not to mention easier to read) -- even concerning the above topics.
