I mean really folks ...Am I the only one who was fuming when everywhere I went for the last 10 years, there were large families with squaling brats, hablaing in public like this was Mexico? When the school districts in our cities went banko cuz they were trying to teach ethnic minority children in their own languages (mostly Spanish), when my anglo gardener couldn't do that kind of work anymore cuz he had been undercut by illegals doing the same work for much less?, when our prisons became full of (mostly Hispanic) illegal immigrant felons who were raping, robbing and murdering not only each other but US citizens and dealing drugs on our streets? Crippling our hospital and health care sytem by demanding treatment and not being able to pay? These things and several others I was aware of a long time ago and was very concerned. No one else seemed to care. Oh, don't be such a fussy, old man they told me. I think this has been brewing for a long time. Time to straighten it out.

BizTiz you aren't paying attention. 12 million or more people are not legal immigrants. The US immirgration service is charged with fair, balanced immigration service for ALL cultures, to enhance our culture. The issue is not LEGAL immigration, it is ILLEGAL that is the issue. It is not an issue of race. It is an issue of balance, control and well being for my/our country. Schools are shot, judicial/prison system is overburdened, medical care for all US folks is in ruins etc. We got a right to straighten this out when the people who are causing this problem are Illegals (mostly from one country, Mexico) Mexicanos are nice people but just like the rest of us, they have issues. We don't need their issues here to excess, to the exclusion/destruction of our services and well being, when they come here illegally.

It became an issue when States were running out of money because of a flood of non citizens coming up and using the programs up. And had to borrow from other programs
Also the schools went below world standards-due to a mass of unplanned people crowding the schools.
Hospitals closed

I don't think the politicians would have made it an issue if the people and the media hadn't had enough ... as you say, this is not a new problem, and those of us who live in the border states have had to deal with these issues for years ... without anybody listening ... yes, at long last people have woken up to the reality, and at long last, maybe something will be done about it ... if we had secured our borders after Reagan's amnesty, we wouldn't have ca 12 million illegals in this country now .. but suppose better late than never ... and indeed time to straighten it out, once and for all!!

A Good Chunk of Mexico needs to move back home...not out of hate, but simply because they're in the wrong country. Mexico needs reforms, and the mexican people have to see to it that their government undertakes these reforms, so that their social problems, some of which have been around for decades, finally start taking a turn in a positive direction. Most americans, by the way, don't hate mexico, or mexicans. It's just a matter of like, dealing with a family member that's become too dependent over the years, you need a little space for yourself, there...and others need to support themselves...

It was an issue. It was a HUGE issue. Politicians didn't respond with a Bill until agriculture said 'we really really need a guest worker program because illegals don't want to stay picking strawberries when they can now work in construction."
Don't make 'lack of press' equate to lack of a problem.
In Southern California, where the concentration of illegal immigrants is the worst in the country, our schools are overcrowded and underfunded and ESL programs are the only special education that routinely is supported. Meanwhile, we subsidize poor people in education, including those illegally here. If our children can't even get a good education themselves in our schools anymore, we have no business educating literally millions of the children of illegal immigrants in our local area.
The press and politicians didn't create this except by lack of coverage when it was needed earlier, and criminal neglect, in my opinion.

I agree with you that illegal immigrants have hurt the US but I think it isn't the crime issue but more on labor issues. Most Florida farmers hire Mexicans simply to avoid paying higher salaries. What is below our standard of living is acceptable to them and they tolerate miserable conditions that Americans won't. That is not to say Americans are lazy but we expect a decent pay.The problem is old and began as the economy of the US grew and continued through the corruption of officials. We have attempted to slow down the cascades of illegals by border patrols and even by investing in factories to make life there more attractive (which hurt US workers through loss of jobs) but it is not limited to Mexico, we also have Haiti, Cuba, Central American and South American countries contributing to the illegal immigrants. While I don't want Big Brother controlling me, perhaps ID cards should be issued to all citizens and even family books but these raids and cursory inspections are failing. Everyone can feel sorry for the poor and hungry but isn't it time that they straightened the own woes out? The poverty that exists comes from either bad luck on what nature dealt out or from greed. Now in their own way the illegals want to be as greedy as their own leaders and move to greener pastures.

No, you're right, this is NOT something that just happened overnight!! It did not even happen in the last couple of years! ILLEGAL immigration has been going on in MY state, for OVER twenty years, that i know of!!! And,you are right about everything ELSE you said!! I live in a border state, and we have had these problems with illegals for MANY years!!! We have tried to get something DONE about it,but when you have the treasonous McCain as your Senator, and a DUMBOCRAT,WORTHLESS governor, well, need i say more??
Amnesty NEVER works!!! It never has,and it never will!!! It only ENCOURAGES more illegals to come here!!!!!!!!

There has ALWAYS been a problem with it. It's just that now because of politics, the media is covering more of it. That's why it seems like no one was concerned until now. I personally feel that ALL illegals need to go beck home. Every one of them is a thief. Yes, ALL of them are. They steal peoples identities, among other things. The reason it seems like a big issue now is because the midterm elections are coming up and Bush has to have something to show for him being in office.

true, every ethnicity has issues. Now, the illegal Mexicans are being targets but who's next? This will pass, a politician will get elected (thanks to all he stirred up) and then another issue will be "the big issue". Illegals have been around since the beginning of the creation of the US, so yes, it has only become an issue because SOMEONE need votes.

It seems to take a long time before the American people actually rise up on anything and make themselves heard....We are all usually too busy trying to make a living....I think this is what happened with immigration.....America wants it to stop....America wants the laws to be upheld....the people are demanding these things....finally! And I believe that Carter, Reagan and Clinton did these things very quietly (and deliberately)....until it was completely out of control. Now, we all want it to stop and to reverse it, if possible.

Its been an issue in Arizona for 20 years. The rest of America is just now waking to it. There are some that try and trivialize the issue because they have a political agenda of their own.
