Her age is a big factor, but her birthing history and health are a greater concern.
Is there any way you can find out how often she has had babies? Did she have any trouble giving birth? Did she have plenty of milk? Where the babies born healthy (no deformities)? How long has it been since she had a litter? Was she allowed a rest between litters, (not bred every single time just because she was in heat)?
You will need to know the answer to all these questions to determine if your girl can safely carry the babies to term.
I have had girls I was able to bred (after careful thought) at 8 years of age. But I knew her history and she is a free whelper and never had any trouble and delivered fat healthy babies.
I had 3 year old I had to stop breeding because she had so much pain and problems birthing the babies.
So you have to check on her past history. And be sure of her current health.
Heat cycles: Again this will vary from dog to dog, but as an average, they will go into heat every 6 to 9 months. The heat will last approximately 21 days.
The first 8 to 10 days she will tease and flirt with the male, allow him to mount but not bred her.
The 11 to the 15 day she will be the most fertile and will allow the male to breed (against common belief they DO NOT have to lock for her to get preg)
The last 5 to 7 days she will not want the male any where near the business end of her body. She will try to rip his head off.
The above dates are as a guide...not set in stone,
**NOTE** They CAN produce puppies from more than one male if they are allowed to free breed.

What kind and size dog is it? For a larger dog, life expectancy is around 10, making a 7 year old a little over the hill. Small dogs can live up to 15, so that would still be middle age. Check with your vet.

It depends on the breed of dog....If the dog has a life expectancy 10 years, then yes your dog is too old, but if the life expectancy is 13-15 years....go for it!

Probably. Depends on the breed of the dog, but most likely it would be a bad idea...like a 50 year old woman having her first baby. Can it happen? Sure. Is it a great plan? Not usually.

You can still breed if the dog just turned 7....I believe the dog can too.

NEVER breed a 7 year old dog! She could die. 4 Years in the limit.

Only your vet can tell you if your dog is capable of breeding at that age...I wouldnt voluntarily breed my dog past age 6 or so...they usually go into heat every six months, and gestation is about 63 days...
