I'm moving from Baton Rouge to Houston for college. I need to know if I would need to get a Texas driver's license since I would not be considered a Texas resident. If I am required to have a Texas driver's license, what adress would I supply? My dorm address or my out of state home address? Also, what would I do about the actual car license plate as well?

You would keep your home-state license. You would also keep your home-state tags. Out-of-state college students are not considered residents for driver's license and vehicle registration purposes. If you buy a car in TX, you may either title and register it in your home state or in TX; it's your choice.

As far as I know all out of state students do NOT need to get a new license for the state they are going to school in because they are not considered permanent residents. I'm pretty sure all the states of the union share that rule so they don't force each other kids to get another license.

It's the same for licencse plates and other forms of car registration too. But you'll really have to check with the police or city hall where you are going to school just to make sure.

But, people have gotten a license in that new state in an attempt to set up permanent residence in that new state then pay the lower resident's tuition rates. I'm not sure how often that works though.

As far as I know (at least in CT) college students would keep the license they have because they do not reside here. The same would go the the license plate. This is assuming that you go home for the summer and do not live in TX year round.

As long as you are a full-time student in TX, and your permanent home address in in LA, then you can keep your LA drivers license and registration plates. Just make sure your insurance company knows you are temporarily living in another state.

Your state of residence remains LA. You do not need a new Texas license or plates unless you change your permanent residence

Normally, your home state remains your state of residence for your driver's license and your car registration. It is perfectly normal for college studens to be from out of state.
