Guinness is STOUT, it isn't beer. Most people who drink Guinness for the first time expect it to taste like a dark beer, and they don't like it. One of the other answerers has it right..it does have a rich, heaviness to it, and a hint of a coffee flavor. It's pleasant, assuming you don't expect it to taste like Budweiser. I've heard it referred to as the chocolate milk of beers..which is pretty accurate I think. Definitely not cheap swill that you put down one after another..you sip it, preferrably with a good meal.

BTW, if Guinness is too strong for you, try Bass Ale..it's lighter but still has a darker flavor than regular beer.

It has a rather unique flavour that is very hard to describe. It is an acquired taste in order to drink it. It's a very dark, heavy beer.. it's also very healthy.. full of iron (so if you're iron is low, drink a pint of Guinness every day... trust me, it works).. and is a filling beer, not a sipping beer.
Best thing to do is try it.. BUT.... Guinness is BEST ON TAP.. not as good out of a bottle or can.

It's heavy and full and pleasantly bitter, with a breath of sweetness that is smelt more than tasted. It's not so much a beer, as a stout; it is a wonderful drink, and much worth trying, at least once!

You might also try Harp, a gentle Irish beer that is sometimes mixed half and half with Guinness, and called a Half and Half...delightful!

This isn't really a good example of a taste, but we used to call Guinness "steak in a glass". Just awesome lol

Ah Guinness. Famed in song and story. It tastes like roasted grain. And that's exactly what it's made of. The grain is roasted almost to the point of being burnt. And that's what gives it such a dark colour.

creamy froth if poured from the tap rather dark and heavy but not overwhelming, in my experiences of having it it can be both enjoyed with or without an accompaniment (blackcurrant goes well) I prefer Guinness to a Budweiser in my opinion a great tasting beer if you like it like that ;P

I like Guinness - it's dark, but it is surprisingly light in texture. It has to be poured correctly and put in the right glass with a nice head on it. Very tasty, if you like beer.
