My brother has cerebral palsy, why not cure that with some stem cells?!

How does stem cell research work, anyway?

stem cells are taken from the spinal cord of a grown up or from the umbilical cord in a new born (doens't hurt babies at all), stem cells haven't define their function yet so they can "become" any cell they wantjust by being in contact with other cells.
now a days stem cells are used to repair damaged organs or even fixinf some sickness, they're still working on stem cells and neurons, this cells are the most complex in the entire human body... hopefully soon stem cells will be used to treat Alzheimer, Parkinson, cerebral paralysis, etc...

There are two types of stem cell research, both of which could eventually cure your brother. Stem cells offer a tantalizing possibility that requires futher research, not an immediate cure for anything, yet, which is important to note. The two types are embryonic stem cell research and adult stem cell research. As you might suspect from the names, the first uses stem cells from fertilized embryos, a process which destroys the embryo. This is a potentially dangerous area ethically, whether you believe life begins at conception or the embryo merely represents possible life, the research still requires destruction of that possible life. Adult stem cells can be taken from various places in an adult body, and do not harm the adult. There seems to be no ethical issues with stem cells, and although they take a bit longer, some research indicates that adult stem cells can do everything that embryonic stem cells can. Why clone and destroy thousands of embryos when we can get the same result with adult stem cells?
