I am the mother of a 2yr old daughter who I adopted from India. No one but another adoptive parent knows the intense joy of becoming a parent through adoption. I never went through childbirth, labor, all the stuff that women say is the most amazing thing they've experienced. But I can tell you that the adoption journey - from start to finish - was like witnessing grace. I can't even describe how blessed I feel every day, knowing this child and I found each other. Even on her most 'terrible two' days :)

If you do decide to take this path to becoming a parent, it will be hard, frustrating, exciting, and amazingly filled with joy. Get on adoptive parent listservs, join social and support groups for adoptive families .... getting connected with other adoptive families will show you whether or not this is the path you want to take.

Much luck to you and your husband!

And don't let anyone tell you you're not a "real mother" if you do decide to adopt. You're about as real as any mother can be when you go through that potty-training stage! ;-)

my grandmother adopted and also had 8 kids of her own. My "uncle" still calls her mom even though he is a grown man. I think parents who adopt are truly angels on earth. It's so nice to give a kid a family like that. My dad counted up the childern he remember living in the house with him and it was about 15. Not at the same time though.

My husband and I adopted an older child (9 years old when we met her) after we were told that we would not have our own (this was after 8 years of ttc). We have since been blessed with our own son in addition.
The process was rough and daily life is even rougher but it is worth it.
