Is DLP a plasma, LCD, or something completely different? I think LCD is better than plasma, even though it's cheaper, but which of these three is best?

DLP is a micro mirror device. A high intensity lamp is bounced off the mirrors and projected on to screen. Many years down the road you can replace the lamp and the picture will be as bright as the first time it was turned on. One of its draw backs is the lamp its self. The lamp goes bad and its very expensive and the heat generated can destroy the supporting electronics prematurely. LCD can either be projected like the DLP or flat panel. In the projection the same problem with the lamp as the DLP has plus there are more things that burn up. Such as polarizer's and the LCD panels. The flat panel sizes are getting larger and the prices are dropping. They use florescent tubes for back light which unfortunately cannot be replaced separately when they go bad or the ballast. Plasma uses phosphor like your standard tv so down the road the phosphor will burn and become less bright, especially if still pictures are left on the screen for any length of time, like video games and computer screens. I highly recommend you purchase and extended warranty. Good luck

It really depends on what you want to use it for. For video games I beleive a LCD is best. But if the LCD gets bigger than around 40 inches it seems to get grainy regardless of the resolution.

Try this:

It looks like this is good for really huge TV, while LCD is good for smaller TVs
