I had my first exam, the year 12 GAT. i thought i did really well but i was stressed to the max and as i said it was my first exam. i finished 15 minutes early and the supervisor looked at my stuff, there were answers in the script book for english which i did and multiple choice answers which i completed in the question book instead of on the sheet, she didnt notice this and when she said to me ' you can take the question book if you like' i was really not all there and i took it with me forgetting i wrote my multiple choice answers in there. i know how could i be sooo stupid! well i ask myself all the time and i dont know, but anyway i took it back to school and another supervisor sent it off, they may still mark it but i have to go to an interview, when i brought it home i did not touch it as soon as i realized i took it straight back bit im afraid that the part where i took it home isnt in the incident report and if i say i took it home then they will dismiss it, on the other hand

if it is in the incident report and i dont say so then i'll look like i liar, when really it was a stupid mistake due to stress and lack of sleep and nothing more. i dont want to make it worse for myself but i dont know what to do, should i say i took it home or not?

im from australia in victoria, the gat exam is just a general achivment test, it doesnt effect your final score but it is imporant incase you cant make it to your exams at the end of the year, they will grade you on this

Well, this is unfortunate, but you have learned something. Following the instructions on how to take the test is important. Not letting yourself get so stressed out that you don't know what you are doing is also important. And specifically, this was in English. Here you are, stressing like crazy just telling us about it, and your command of English has gone to heck.

I think the best you can do is explain at the interview exactly what happened, including the part about taking it home, and including the part about the proctor telling you it was OK to take it home. She did not notice that you'd put your answers in there instead of on the answer sheet, so she was not doing her job very well. Then agree to take it over again, if they will permit that.

If you do get permission to take it over, plan to study, but not stress yourself to mindlessness. After all, you've seen the test, and know what it is like. Get a good night's sleep the night before, and resolve to keep calm and do your best.

If you're a good student who hasn't been caught cheating before. you might luck out and they will believe you. However, if you have been caught cheating. it is unlikely they will believe you.

The best thing to do is be honest in the interview. You didn't mention your grade. If it falls in line with all your other grades, they would believe your story alot easier than if you outdid yourself. This is the one time you might hope to not get everything right.

You can explain, but don't expect much. You learned a tough lesson, but I'll bet you don't make that mistake again.
