People say chink and honky all the time, but when someone outside of the black culture says n***** most black people would be shocked and/or pissed off. I think as long it's not used in a negative way it shouldn't be such a big deal, but then it shouldn't be used in every other sentence either.

also when i said people say honky or chink all the time, i meant in a comedic sense. i don't know anyone who actually uses these terms to insult one another.

Could look at it two ways.
1. If everybody used it and no fuss was made then it would lose the shock factor and probably be ignored.
2. It should never be used even by a black person as it is a disgusting derrogatory word, which has its history in the removal of peoples freedom.
I go for the second one, I also don't see how people can say it is freedom of speech to insult an entire race.

wow.. not every black person talks like a stereotypical african american rapper. and why are you worried about a word that dosn't and should't ever concern you? thats the real question. and people definitley dont use chink and honky all the time. Most asians would be shocked and/or pissed of to if you said chink! try it, and same for whites and honky. they are RACIAL SLURS you cliche, ignorant american. i mean why do people ask such dumb questions? ~~THERE ARE DIFFERENT CULTURES IN AMERICA~~ some people are RAISED to think its alright!

It is amazing to see somoene here asking this question. I have heard this question once come up in a talk show. I do not remember which one and when it was, however the answers were really all the same.
It seems to me the only ones who are really allowed to use/say the N word are African-American people. If one should say it towards another, it is deemed to be OK with that other person.
But, if a white person either male or female were to say it towards an African-American, then most definitely that person would become very upset about it and make a huge issue over it

NO ONE SHOULD BE USING CHINK, HONKY OR ****** AT ALL. THESE WORDS ARE ALL DEROGATORY TERMS MEANT TO HURT AND DEGRADE OTHERS. IF WE COULD ALL STOP USING THESE HURTFUL WORDS, THINK HOW MUCH BETTER OUR COUNRTY WOULD BE. Just because a person uses a derogatory term against one of his own, doesn't give someone of another group/race the right to use it. Just remember that every word that comes out of your mouth has the chance of making another person happy or quite miserable.

Well, if thats the case then no words that were used by another culture to demean and to slander and to break down cannot be used. NOW WHO WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR US SPEAKING THESE WORDS. No one in this world that is grown even some youth, have not let these such words fall from. There is no one that can tell you nor I something to say. SO dont worry about it, just be careful, you might say it in front of somebody that MAY take it offensively and then well....just be careful.

this is a touchy subject..
when i was a little girl that was all i heard,my mom still says it but she never has had any black friends..she is stuck in a time warp,anyway..i think if they can call white people crackers ect then we should be able to say the n
word..it is just a word..just like colored or black...i assume they get upset because of the slavery thing a long time ago and the ansestors are trying to make a difference now..people are just people no matter what color they are.
it is the personality and what one does with thier life that counts

To BizTizz....
Tell me the span of time that you were a slave?
How old are you?
I think you need do drop that slavery BS. You ain't never been no slave and you ain't never known no slaves.
Your parents weren't slaves.
Get over it.
If your sister breaks a windo is that your fault? Then why are the honky's of today to blame for slavery.
It's getting really tiresome with all that trash.

Everyone has freedom of speech, although this falls into a double standard. This is a word that represents ugliness and hate, and many blacks who use this word seem to have forgotten that. Many use the excuse that using this word is about "reclaiming power" and showing the world that the word can't be used to "harm us anymore." I beg to differ, if you don't respect yourself, no one else will either.

The word itself is derogatory and should not be used by anybody, especially African Americans, to embrace a word that has been used for generations to demean and ridicule them is no different then women all of a sudden calling each other cu!@# as a greeting

It isn't the word, it's the "baggage" that comes with it. The mean intents, the hatred. Even if you don't mean it, the meaning has come to the word.
Alice in Wonderland quote: 'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone,' it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less.'
Unfortunately, words mean what the recipient thinks as much as the speaker.
