Why is there religion in schools. Of course they don't blatently say that the school is Christian, but clearly the teachers hand out christmas activities, and there are games and so on, but why? If religion is important to teach, then why cant they teach about buddhism or jewism? The schools are biased and the kids don't know about other religions. They think they're getting better by calling the christmas concert a winter concert, but they don't really stop; they're just masking the real issue.

But a school is for knowledge. Knowledge is fact, but religion is opinion. You can't teach it as if it is a fact.

In response to an answer, if something was wrong in the past, it should be changed. Just because some people thought the earth was flat, and books were written about it doesn't mean they cant be changed. You're to conservative.

I do complain about any religion in a school, but clearly Christian is the most prominant. I stated that above. In your answers, please refrain from speaking of the bible as "true", speak of why it is or isn't ok to have religion in the schools.

And it isnt a threat to me, or others, we are close in number, but it is a problem that kids think of themselves as Christian by defauly, as brought upon by the schools, and society.

Absolutely.
I worry less about Christmas-type stuff than I do just about general stuff. And science. Heck, it's a fight just to teach *evolution* and not some crazy other-religious idea. Christmas has evolved into a holiday of society--there are aspects of it that are no longer religious, even though the roots are religious. Just like I wouldn't want to give up Halloween, and those are pagan roots.
But the problem goes deeper than that. Our country has God on our money, God in our pledge of alligience, and when speeches are given, there are always prayers and God gets mentioned a lot.
Separation of church and state is a long way off in reality.

Why is it a threat to you and those like you if they teach Christianity verse religion of the world? Let me ask all of you who are against celebrating Christmas a few questions: Do you continue to go to school during this time of year? Do you take the day off due to Christmas as a national holiday and most are given off to celebrate the true reason for the season? How many of you work on the "religious holidays"? Sure don't hear you complaining for getting time off. Yet you complain because the majority of this nation (United States) celebrate the reason for the season.
They are teaching other religions in public schools. They have removed the Christian Bible from the shelves of the school libraries but have placed the book of Islam in the hands of students, so to learn about Islamic religion. Yet, you are not complaining about that, why?
If you don't like the religion this nation (majority of it) believes in, then remove yourself from this land and go to the land that practices the one religion you follow. Take the one way trip and don't return.
Go ahead and remove God from the schools and try to remove Him from the way of this nation. You might succeed for a time, but watch out... you will lose in the end.

When someone asked God why he allowed the shootings in Columbine, He answered "I'm not allowed in schools".
I think a course could be offerred on different world religions just explaining the beliefs of the people of the world. Not just one religion. It might plant the seed of tolerance for other peoples beliefs and maybe even spark an interest in the student to further study one or more of them for herself. I think it could be done in a way that isn't shoving religion down his throat.
I also think there is nothing wrong with a moment of silence for students and staff to pray, go within, or just take some deep breaths.

Because Christianity is what our founding fathers based our country on, thats why. And what is so wrong about teaching about Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, in the schools? I go to public school, and all I see in our science book is evolution. The schools are not biased. The public schools teach evolution. Why evolution? It is just a theory. If they're going to teach anything in public schools, it needs to be true, and not just a theory.

Well I think it has a lot to do with reports that the U.S. is something like 80 or 90 percent Christian. I don't have time to look up any census reports or my answer will drop to number 80 in about 5 minutes! Anybody know the actual figure?

Christmas is more of an atheist holiday in this country, because many atheists do celebrate Christmas. Learning about Santa Claus and elves isn't going to turn you into a Christian, so don't
worry.

how can you say something like that, when Christ is the reason for Christmas.Easter has to do with God.Taking God out of the pledge of allegiance is totally wrong because that is how it was written.no one should be able to change what has been handed down in history
it takes a real hypocrite to not want anything to do with God or any religion for that matter!!!!

Well the truth is they can, according to the ACLU, teach any religion but one. That one religion is Christianity.
Think about this: meditation is able to be taught, but not prayer. You can teach evolution, yes it is a religion, but not creation (for the most part).
So religion can be taught as long as it has nothing to do with God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit.

Religion is for fools, that is why it should not be taught in PUBLIC schools.
“Religion is the impotence of the human mind to deal with occurrences it cannot understand”.
