Doesn't matter which one is male and which one is female. Could they do it by themselves if they wanted to? Has it ever happened?

I think it is possible for any dogs to mate. I have a Chihuahua (weighs about 8 pounds) who had two puppies. One did not live but the other is the size of a Blue-tick Beagle (weighs about 20 pounds). Now tell me how that happened?

In theory yes, but the likely hood? I doubt it. All breeds of dogs can succesfully breeed with all breeds of dogs. However, A mastiff male would probably crush a chihuahua female, and a chihuahua male probably would't be able to reach a mastiff female. They most likely wouldn't do it on there own, but via artificialy ways, it could be done...that'd be an ugly dog.

Due to the different sizes, it seems impossible for the two breeds to mate. The only way possible would be through artificial insemination.

I don't think it would be physically possible, especially not without some help.
