Under the Laws of Armed Conflict the military can not harm non-combatants (If at all possible) If a person is a combatant then all necessary force is authorized, BUT to kill a Civilian without due process of the law or with out him/her being identified as a combatant is called Murder. If the war was in the USA instead of Iraq, the equivalent action would be for a soldier to fire on or blow up an old folks home or hospital with little regard for the civilians inside the building! I do believe the press has way to much "influence" in the military actions, but I cant agree to the attitude of "kill every one and let God sort them out" either... If a Soldier does his/her job correctly and to the best of his/her abilities, then murders/rapes/ and other atrocities should not happen or be stopped by the NCOs or Officers in charge. The press can't complain if the proper actions are taken at the time of the incident and not 1 to 2 months after the fact...

By "get the press out of there and let our guys do there job," you mean let the army slaughter people and don't let those pesky journalists document it. And what is their job, by the way? To kill and do it efficeintly. I'm guessing Abu Ghrab, Haditha and lord knows what else, are just isolated incidents? It's so great how the people who most say they love the army, are the ones not in it, or the ones that will excuse anything a soldier does because they have a uniform. Okay then, the Nazi's were in uniform, so was that okay? Oh wait, our soldiers neeeevvvvveerrrrrrr do anything wrong. Why? Because they are our soldiers? Our soldiers are the smartest, greatest, kindest, most caring people around. They just happen to drop bombs on people, torture them, shoot them. But they only do that to terrorists, right? 2-3 month old terrorists. If an American soldier killed you, you deserved it.
**Learn to write by the way. It's "their," and not, "there." I know education and literature is for leftist intellectuals and real Americans can't be bothered with grammar or science.

It's not just I Iraqi Citizen that is killed. And those who intentionally kill civilians go to jail because in this great country we have a thing called LAWS. I know, what a radical idea. Ever heard of a little thing called democracy? And I bet the Iraqi Soldiers who fragged our troops are probably being jailed right now.
Have you ever heard of My Lai? It is very similar to the massacre in Haditha. US Soldiers killing innocent and defenseless civilians. Murderers are tried as murderers. It's called justice.
There's also something called the First Amendment. One of the Freedoms in it is the freedom of the press. Without it, we end up like a Communist Society like China. The press is out to state the facts.

I agree. We try to fight our wars in the most civilized way possible. That's impossible. War and being civilized are 2 opposites. We are like the world leader. If other countries see us killing Iraqi civilians, they'll get pissed because we're supposed to be a role model for them. Terrorist leaders know that and they exploit it. They're using our press to limit what we can do over there.
I'm not saying it's right for our soldiers to kill civilians, but just imagine how they must feel. They don't know who the enemy is. At any point, they could be blown away by a suicide bomber. The bomber could be anyone from a man with dynamite strapped to them, to a child offering a soldier a drink with a bomb in it. Our soldiers can't trust any of them so it's understandable if they get over suspicious of an Iraqi citizen. Yes, it's tragic, but it's all part of the hell we call war.

what the hell are you talking about?
the iraqis we are training are not the ones killing our troops.
and the troops that are killing civilians should go to jail.
if you come up with a gun and shoot me, you would go to jail.
by the way, we have killed anywhere from 100,000 - 350,000+ Iraqis, and the majority of those have been civilians,
this isnt a war we're fighting.
its a massacre.
and the press has every right to be over there.
keeping them from doing so would go against the very foundations that this country was built on.
read the constitution.

I don't think murdered is justified for anyone!
Why??? Because it is murder. And it has been at least 6 incidents and dozens of murders of innocent citizens, to include children, by US troops! Why do you say one? To minimize out actions? They used to call us baby killers!! No such outrage today huh?
One doesn't make it "OK", for us.
We then are as bad as they are. we have sunken to new lows of morality.
We started this war! What did the idiot in the white house think would happen??? His own father told him what he would unleash if we went into Iraq and he was right!!
It is illogical thinking like this which brings out the worse in us!

Very few gunfire deaths - most are by roadside bombs. We do not train how to do roadside bombs. Sadly, as a mother of a Ranger and a LT. I can not agree with civilian murders if they are convicted there must be hard time. These killings would be crimes against humanity. I am a right wing Republican but like most of my friends I can not excuse civilian murders. My son knows better & would never excuse it in his men.

Because the Liberals are trying their best to get us out of there. Since they can't convince the civilian population that they are right, they are trying to force us out by bringing the negative stuff up. They don't tell you that Liveing conditions are up by 28% and people are getting food and water. Kids get toys and candy and the looks on their faces light up the soldiers day because they see the results of their work. I know, because my father is over there training the Afghan Military. He is teaching them how to patrol and how to scout out areas. I just hope that if they try to kill him, he takes a couple with him.

You are correct, the press does not belong in amongst our troops, who have better things to do than protect their sorry butts. The press is so one sided these days, its unbelievable- I don't even watch the news any more.
As for why, do we get punished for breaking the law and they don't? We have Law, and they are lawless. Simple.
