It means that extension isn't one it recognizes as connected to any program on your computer. You should still be able to open it by opening the correct program, and then using the program to open the individual file.

But you do need the correct program--if, for example, you download PDFs, but don't have Adobe Acrobat or the Reader, you'll get an association error, which you won't be able to "fix."

To See All File Extensions
1.On the Tools menu in My Computer or Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
2.Click the View tab.
3.Clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box.
To change file associations
1.Right-click a file with the extension whose association you want to change, and then click Open With.
2.In the Open With dialog box, click the program where you want the file to open, or click Browse to locate the program that you want.
3.Select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box.

this is for windows XP in control panel open Folders options, click the tab labeled File types. on the left side of the window it there will be a list of extensions. find the one that has the extension to match your attchment, highlight that extension and you will then have the option on the lower section of the window to choose which program to use to open files with that extension, or to "associate" with that type of file.............................I have never seen a file extension as "Lexmark" - if the program that created the file is a lexmark program then it may be a propietary extension and you would have to go with a lexmark program to access the file. hope that is helpful
