Yes you can catch diseases by having contact with any bodily fluids. That could be even by way of a cut or in the case of Hep C it could be transferred through tatoo ink. Of course needles are a biggie. While tuberculosis is not considered and STD it tends to be becoming drug resistent in the sexually active population and is an air bourn virus. Safe sex is the only way even if it is casual it is not safe without a barrier between you and the other person.

HSV-1, the virus responsible for common cold sores, can be transmitted through oral secretions. This usually occurs during kissing, or by eating and drinking from contaminated utensils.
Additionally, HSV-1 can cause genital herpes through transmission during oral-genital sex, thus both strains of the virus may be transmitted by sexual contact.
Research suggests that the virus can be transmitted even when there are no symptoms present, so that a sexual partner without obvious genital herpes sores may still transmit the illness. In fact, asymptomatic spread may actually contribute more to the spread of genital herpes than do active sores.
Herpes viruses are contagious. Contact may occur directly, or through contact with infected razors, towels, dishes, and other shared artcles. Occasionally, oral-to-genital contact may spread oral herpes to the genitals (and vice versa). For this reason, people with active herpes lesions on or around the mouths or on the genitals should avoid oral sex

yup, the thing that passes STDs on is bodily fluids. So for example it would be possible to contract an STD if two open wounds came into contact. or if an infected person's blood got in your mouth or eyes.

It depends on what you mean by "direct sex". According to Clinton, fellatio isn't "sex" but you can certainly catch an STD by performing it.

yes you can ... the term is very broad.. however oral sex can pass an std as can body fluids in an open wound .. it really depends on the std in question as to how contagious it is.. the best thing is to know your partner

With oral sex, yes. With hands and fingers, if there's no exchange of fluids, no open sores/injuries that come in contact with one another, i'm sure it's very safe. With toys, I would imagine there is no risk as long as you use condoms with them or use toys that can be properly sterlized.

Yes! There are a lot of STDS you can get by skin to skin contact or rubbing. Babies can also be born with an STD or get it through breast milk if their mother has it.

Crabs (Pubic Lice) is spread by skin-to-skin contact, or in clothing, bedding, or on a toilet seat harboring the insects.

Chancroid is another STD that can be spread by direct skin to skin contact or from sex toys such as a vibrator or dildo that have touched a sore.

Chlamydia is mainly passed through sexual activity but you can get it from sharing sex toys or touching parts of the body with fingers (for example, chlamydia often occurs in the eyes).

Gonorrhea (Clap) can be spread by sharing sex toys, touching parts of the body with fingers (for example, touching the private parts and then the eyes), and any very close physical contact. The bacteria can be passed from hand to hand (very rare isolated cases) and also from a mother to her baby at birth

Hepatitis
Type A hepatitis is contracted through anal-oral contact, by coming in contact with the feces of someone with hepatitis A, or by eating or drinking hepatitis A contaminated food or water.
Type B hepatitis can be contracted from infected blood, seminal fluid, vaginal secretions, or contaminated drug needles, including tattoo or body-piercing equipment. It can also be spread from a mother to her newborn.
Type C hepatitis is not easily spread through sex. You're more likely to get it through contact with infected blood, contaminated razors, needles, tattoo and body-piercing equipment, or manicure or pedicure tools that haven't been properly sanitized, and a mother can pass it to her baby during delivery.
Type D hepatitis can be passed through contact with infected blood, contaminated needles, or by sexual contact with an HIV-infected person.
Type E hepatitis is most likely to be transmitted in feces, through oral contact, or in water that's been contaminated.

Herpes
Both herpes simplex virus-1 and virus-2 may be transmitted by kissing or touching any affected area.

HIV/AIDS
You can get HIV/AIDS from a blood transfusion; contaminated needles; exchange between mother and infant during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding.

HPV
Through skin-to-skin contact. (Genital, hand, and feet warts)

Scabies can be spread through close contact or through sleeping in bedding or wearing clothes that are infested. Rarely, holding or shaking hands can transmit scabies.

Syphilis can be spread by intimate touching or kissing. Mothers can pass it to their babies by touching syphilis sores (chancres) and then touching the baby.
