You would be surprise at how easy it is to improve the performance of your PC and your internet connection. Over at Connected Internet, they have published 3 articles to improve PC performance.

1. 10 Simple Ways to Speed up Windows XP -- (http://www.connectedinternet.co.uk/2005/12/03/645/)

2. 10 Intermediate Ways to Speed up Windows XP -- (http://www.connectedinternet.co.uk/2005/12/05/652/)

3. More Ways to Speed up Windows XP -- (http://www.connectedinternet.co.uk/2006/01/12/706/)

"I’ve just finished setting up a new PC for a friend and I think some of you will be interested in some of the tweaks I make to all of my PCs to make them quicker. I’ve focused here on the ones which are simple to do and won’t cause problems if you get it wrong, rather than listing registry tweaks etc." -- excerpt from Connected Internet.

The author explains step by step how to improve performance using plain English and no computer geek language. I noticed a great improvement on my computer's performance using these tweaks.

Do a disk cleanup and a disk defragmentation (start > all programs > accessories > system tools > disk cleanup). Put a check mark by everything and run it.

After the disk cleanup do the defrag. It could take a few hours depending on size of hard drive and how long it's been since it was last done.

After that clean out your cookies, offline files and history (start > control panel > internet options > general tab.) Click on Delete Cookies and when it asks if you're sure answer yes. Click on Delete Files, put a check mark by offline files, answer yes when it asks if you're sure. Click on Clear History and answer yes when it asks if you're sure. And change the number of days to save history to no more than 5. Anything more than that is a waste of memory.

Finally, and this is a biggie, get as much RAM as you can afford and that your computer can support. You can go to any of the following sites and find out what kind of RAM, how much RAM, etc. your computer can handle and then shop around for the lowest prices.

www.kingston.com
www.pny.com

Hope this helps.

Important decent amount of ram, more than you need, and a very good graphics card. both make for a good performance. one is the brawn of the machine which you cannot see, the other and one we judge by is the performance on the monitor, redrawing as we scorll etc, and that's down to graphics.
