I'm talking about the Bible obviously. You shouldn't believe everything you read today, so why should I believe that these guys who wrote the Bible actually talked to or heard God. How do I know these guys weren't smokin something or schizo.

I agree you don't have to believe every word is truth. And I honor that stance as long as you don't believe every word written by Darwin, Lavosier, Planck, Einstein, Newton, etc., etc. etc.

They may all have been smokin or schizo.

Was the Bible only written by humans? Or are the fingerprints of God all over it? Let's take a look and see.

Let's examine some verses in Mark chapter 16, (which some have disputed as original) and explore their underlying design. Just as we encounter fingerprint or retinal scanners to verify an identity in today's technological environment, it seems that there is an astonishingly equivalent "fingerprint" hidden beneath the Biblical text that is still visible despite the veil of the centuries.

There are 175 (7 x 25) words in the Greek text of Mark 16:9-20. Curious. These words use a total vocabulary of 98 different words (7 x 14), also an exact multiple of seven. That's also rather striking.

Try constructing a passage in which both the number of words and the number of letters are precisely divisible by seven (with no remainder)! The random chance of a number being precisely divisible by 7 is one chance in seven. In seven tries, there will be an average of six failures.

The chance of two numbers both being divisible by 7 exactly is one in 7 to the 2nd power, or one in 49. (This is a convenient simplification; some mathematical statisticians would argue the chance is one in 91.5 ) This still might be viewed as an accidental occurrence, or the casual contrivance of a clever scribe. But let's look further. The number of letters in this passage is 553, also a precise multiple of seven (7 x 79). This is getting a bit more tricky. The chance of three numbers accidentally being precisely divisible by seven is one in 7 to the third power, or one in 343. This increasingly appears to be suspiciously deliberate.

As we examine the vocabulary of those 98 (7 x 14) words: 84 (7 x 12) are found before in Mark; 14 (7 x 2) are found only here. 42 (7 x 6) are found in the Lord's address (vv.15-18); 56 (7 x 8) are not part of His vocabulary here.

This is, conspicuously, not random chance at work, but highly skillful design.

I would say that you could believe it if it we not self contradicting and verifiable. But the bible is very self contradictory and often disagrees with modern archeology.

If "THE WORD OF GOD" is wrong on any small point, doesn't that call it all into question? If you were an omniscient, omnipotent god, would you let a lie be spread in your name?

someone wrote:
"there are no contradictions (that will be denied, but it is true)."

Maybe your statement is being denied because it is false. I could say, "the moon is made of cheese (that will be denied, but it is true)." Just saying that, "that will be denied, but it is true." is just avoiding the issue. Even most biblical scholars I've read agree that the OT and even some of the NT is full of contradictions, some implied and some clear.

Ignore contradiction in "THE WORD OF GOD"? Why? If someone came up to me and said that he was convinced that George Washington was the first man on the moon and he could proove it, I would tend to be suspicious of everything he said after that. I feel the same about the bible.

Look at the prophesys in the Bible and how that had and are continuing to come true!
For example; the Jews were to be dispersed into many nations and then brought back to their homeland and reistablished as a nation.
The ground work for the end of this age is being laid now. Never before has there been a time where it was possible to track people and what they buy and sell. Now with the invention of computers and the RFID chip, the mark of the beast is around the corner!

There are a few contradictions in the 'Book'. Try not to let that distract you from the message. The spirit is real. And yes, it was obvious that you were talking about the 'Book'. That's because it is the most picked over volume ever assembled. And it stands up, if you do serious research. So many people find what they think to be wrong, and stop there. Every time I find a contradiction, or what I think is an error, it turns out to be an opportunity to learn something beyond the 'obvious'.

Scepticism is the attitude that you should never believe anything you hear or read about without first checking it out on the basis of its reasonableness and on the basis of your own personal experience. You need to study the history of the Bible to understand that there are many bibles--there was no bible in the early days (10-300AD), but many, many writings. The current protestant bible is different from the Catholic bible because different religions edit out what they think shouldn't be included. There are many "books" that could have been included in a bible that were not but were edited out by priests and politicians because they were politically incorrect in their day.

It says that the Bible was written by men, yes, but God put upon their hearts what they should write. That's one of the reasons the Bible makes so much since. So in short, the Bible realy isn't written by humans, but rather through humans. It also says that 'all scripture is God breathed' or spoken from him. The choice is yours. You can either believe or you can leave it untouched and judge it. The Bible is better than you think. Check it out.

I just answered another question with this, and it seems an appropriate enough answer to post here as well:

"The Bible was written by God and recorded by man."

In other words, man was just the pen(s) that God used to write his Word out and preserve it for us. The above quote was taken from a sermon, by the way, from my church...if you're curious.

As far as believing it goes, I think you have to have faith to do that. I used to dismiss the Bible as little more than an age-old and falsely translated document that had been tampered with and altered over the centuries to fit man's political agenda(s). Funny enough, it's the Bible that ultimately won me over and led me to open my heart to God. I will never be able to explain that aside from the Holy Spirit, and I know that until God touched me, I was in no position to believe it anymore than you are. I simply needed faith and from there on out, the Bible became a strong foundation and guide for me.

well, your absolutly right when you say that men wrot the Bible, when you write a letter, do you write the letter or does the Pen? you do obviously; the pen is merely the instrument used to write your letter. in the same way God used men as insturments to write his Bible, his word to humanity. the men ranged from fisherment to kings, rich and poor and all 66 books tho written over hundreds and hundreds of years are consitent from beginig to end. try to get only 3 people from different ethincal backrgrounds and economical brackgrounds and try to get them to write a book over the span of Ten years and they would have a terrible timne agreeing and being consitent on anything. yet these men who wrote the 66 books did't evern know each other. that's amazing proof for the BIble's divinity. But here's the real Kicker. The Bible say's when we die we will all stand before God on Judgement day and give an account of every thought word and deed. Let's look at the Commandments and see how you do okay? have you ever lied? have you ever stolen something? ever looked with lust? ever used God's name in vain? if you have said yes to these questions you have broken four of the Ten Commandments (Im guilty also). The Problem is that if we have broken God's commandments and we stand before him and he Judges you and I according to our sins The Bible say's we will end up in Hell. the Good news is that Jesus christ came and sufered and died on the cross to take the punishment for our sins. if you will repent (turn from sin), and trust Jesus as your Lord and savior, God will grant you everlasting life. Please make your salvation sure today, dont let theological red herrings keep you from making your salvation sure today.

Read a Case for Christ by Lee Strobel. The amazing thing about the Bible is the fact that it was written by so many different authors in so many different lands, in 3 languages, from prison, isolation, varied educations, and in the end, there are no contradictions (that will be denied, but it is true). But of course, the biggest proof for me comes from my own faith, hard to "prove" that.
