Me, too! I loved pixie stix. I bought those little wax bottles of sugar syrup. I saved my pennies and bought candy necklaces, you could eat off of those all day. Remember candy cigarettes, and those great big sweet tarts? And licorice and hard candy sticks. And jaw breakers and tootsie rolls.
We had a little neighborhood grocery we called the little red store, actually it was Grove's Delicatessin. They had a whole big wood and glass case of candy. They never seemed to get tired of the kids with just a couple pennies. It's gone now, in the name of improvement, they widened the street to four lanes years ago.
They had novelty ice cream ,too. There was this chocolate covered vanilla ice cream creation with either banana or cherry ice cream in the center. If anyone remembers the name of those, let me know. It was huge. Popsicles, dreamsicles, fudgebars, and the little cups of ice cream with the attatched wooden "spoon" were all a nickle, but went up to a dime before I got out of Grade School.
OK, I pick Bazooka bubblegum, because of the comics inside the wrapper.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane!

About 30 miles from me there is still apeeny candy store. They have all of the favorites like Mary Jane's, Chick o Sticks, friut flavored tootsie rolls, the peanut butter layers candy, sesame treets, gummy everything, and of course blow pops, dum dums, and more. I love this place. Although not much is still a penny, it's very reasonable.
It's in Live Oak, CA if you're ever in the area.

Yes! I used to love those little strawberry marshmallow candies (cone shaped with pink marshmallow inside and deep pink crystals on the outside) I think they were 2 for a penny when I was growing up. I used to love Pixie Stix, too.
