Now THIS is a good question!

Unfortunately, in our society, the success of a family unit is entirely based on the success of the husband. Sorry successful women, especially single successful women, AND single successful women with children and no husband anywhere - our society "stereotypes" everyone. If the husband is successful, then the family is successful, and everyone admires and loves the family.

By the way, I read in a magazine years ago a survey where it was asked what is the 'perfect man.' Here is the answer;

1. He is white.
2. He is 6'2" tall.
3. He has black hair, blue eyes.
4. He weighs 190 pounds.
5. He works in a company, in an office, where he goes to work every day wearing a suit and carrying an attache case.
6. He works 12 hours a day, Mon-Sat.
7. On Sunday, he takes the wife and two children to church in the morning, and then goes play golf with his friends the entire afternoon.
8. He makes about $100,000 per year. Now it would be, I guess, about $150,000-$200,000 per year.

Now it get's REALLY interesting;

Here is what the woman wants!

1. NOT have a JOB!
2. Live in a two-story, 4 bedroom house.
3. Have a guest cottage nearby for her parents to live in.
4. Have a maid
5. Have a butler
6. Have a gardener
7. Go to the country club every day and play tennis.

And this same question was given to very successful women last year; ALL said if they had a choice of career, or a man taking care of them, they would pick the man every time.

Go figure, successful women, no matter how much money or how educated, would give all of it up to live a life where the man took care of them.

People love the illusion of power and if your husband is successful they think that you will be able to do more for them than say, some homeless bum on the street. It's all about what you can do for them, or your husband can do for them. Let your husband get arrested for something and see how many people hang around. Also, don't forget the money. Successful people usually have money, or at least more money than unsuccessful people.

I think the simple old (arabic) proverb says it all:
"Behind every successful man is a successful, STRONG woman" So they're probably curious to see who's supporting this man/ who's behind this and who's enjoying it too!
Could also be jealousy and curiousity. U should always be careful, success attracts a lot of unwanted @%^^

Very interesting! And I see your point. People always judge others based on the company they keep, as the saying goes.

My husband works in a warehouse and has a high school diploma. But his job more than adequately provides for us and he's happy doing what he does. I am always proud of him! BUT....

Some family members trip over themselves trying to impress my cousin's hubby, who earns over $200,000 a year as a stock broker.

Money talks?????

because with a successful husband you have access to his pillow and his ear. If they are in need of something and they are your good friend , perhaps you will get him to help them with it.

and the fact that you are his pillow partner and they want to have his friendship means they have to include you in the schmoozing.

I know it kind of makes you a little sick doesn't it when they come on like you are most funny and best cook and decorator and mother blah avlahalblflskfla..........total BS

They don't love you...they just want your husband if it doesn't work out.
