A possible lack of calcium, provide calcium for your birds, in the way of cuttlefish bone and mineral blocks.
Egg shells are a good source of calcium that could be the reason they are pecking at them.

There's a couple of reasons why the hen and cock are not getting along. They could be an incomapatble pair or they're just not ready to nest yet. You didn't say how old your guys were. If they're under a year old, they're probably too young to know what to do and are picking on eachother out of frustration.

I don't think that the hen is trying to help her chicks in this case. Budgie hens will help their chicks hatch by peeling away the shell as the chick starts to peep. I admire this in budgies as most species won't do this.

I'd seperate your guys for 2 or three days. That might give them enough space to relax. Then put them together again.

Good luck! it's always frustrating to lose eggs and not know why they're being beaten up!

I refuse to answer any question where the asker replaces the word ARE with BE and DOES with DO. I always wonder when I see this, if people like you just dont know any better, or if they really think it sounds cool to talk like that. No, I'm not some 40 year old house wife holyroller either. I am actually only 20, but I still think "ebonics" is the worst slaughter of the English language that has ever occured in history.

Do parakeets in the wild jointly raise young, I think so. Birds is captivity behave differently the male may not like the eggs there or he may be looking for calcium. Do you have a calcium stick in the cage, it is also used for shapening beeks. You had better keep them seperate until the chicks are grown.
