Income is too high for assistance, but too low to find safe, reasonable shelter. Unemployed adult son with two teens lives with him so home has to be big enough for all of them. Sorry situation that is unlikely to change, but they have been evicted so owner can sell property. Any ideas of where to find housing near schools and jobs suitable for adult son, who is willing to work but unable to drive?

Call the next HUD(Housing and Urban Development)office near you and request a list of affordable apartments. The apartments listed with HUD provide a list of rental units subsidized by HUD. Those apartments are usually nice and in pretty good areas. Unlike Section 8 which has to be accepted by the landlord, a HUD subsidy is given to the rental property management who distributes this subsidy according to income and household size. Depending on the criteria, you can save up to 150 dollars in rent for an apartment. Give it a try and good luck.
