I usually have no problem thinking of good party themes, however this time i'm stumped, probably because she doesn't have any particular interests yet, so I have nothing to work with!

Thanks for all of your ideas in advance !

How about a 60's party? All the bright colors and geometric patterns will appeal to her, the adults can get into it and when the adults have fun, the children always have fun, too. It will look great in photos and she will always have that memory.

As having celebrated many birthdays with my children here are a few themes i used over the yrs:

everything daisy, spring party with flowers..
Pirates : treasure hunt, ect ect
princess/ prince.. unicorns

the first is always more geared toward grown ups as the child does not really know whats going on... we just set them up in the high chair with the their cake and let them have at it... we got some really great pic's.. funny to watch them squish it and play with it... heheheehe..

*they were given special cakes made in the shape of the first letter in their name

As a teacher, my two cents are don't go with a theme, just have a fun party and don't push to open presents if it a BIG party. Children become easily stressed and will check out if they don't want to be there.

If it is hot, let her get naked and be cute!

Have a fun and memorable day.

if there is going to be a lot of kids there, then do an "art" theme - have lots of big paper, washable markers and paints, cutout construction paper, etc. When they come in, give each child a "smock" (can be an old shirt backwards that is ready to be discarded and can therefore be a mess), and let each kid can make their own art project, as messy as they want to be ... then to clean them off, have them wear swimsuits under their "smocks" and hose them down or have a kiddy pool of water for them to play in ... it will be messy but kids love it, and you can make one big sheet where each kid puts handprints in paint, their mom and dad signs their name under it, and you put your childs hand and/or foot prints in the center, saying "Johns first birthday, July 4, 2006" or whatever on it. You'll always have it to remember.

Save the stress for when she has input. At this point in her life the party is more for you anyway. Just keep it simple for now. Themed parties are more fun and memorable for the kids when they understand them.

It doesn't matter cause she is gonna either do one or all of the following:

1. grab the cake and smear it all over her darling little face and beautiful dress you bought her

2. go to sleep and not wake up

3. cry the whole time

4. take all her clothes off, escape and streak through the yard in front of all your guests

It will be GREAT!!!! Just don't expect it too be perfect and video tape it so you can show it to all her bfs when she's 16, heehee.

Well my daughters first birthday was Disney Princess. It was beautiful. She was so small with this beautiful grand ballroom sort of a dress baby pink, then to top it off she had the tiniest crown on her head. She was such a princess. It was perfect for me.

It doesn't matter she won't remember and all she is interested is the food and wrapping paper.
