Actually, I don't think the parents need to go. (Some maybe).

It is important to different parents for different reasons. I think that is obvious in the variety of preschool curriculums available. Some parents are looking at preschool as a way to academically prepare their child(ren) for kindergarten - to learn their letters, numbers, how to properly hold a pencil, etc. Others need time away from their child(ren) for one reason or another... And finally, there are the parents that see the true value of Early Childhood Education - as a way to nurture the whole child - socially, academically, cognitively, gross and fine motor skills, creatively, etc. HTH

If interested in your child/ren a parent finds preschool important as a way of helping their offspring to understand a social setting outside of the home. It also helps in preparation for the separation that school brings, and also gives a beginning to the childs academic career.

Because we want what's best for our children. Children who attend preschool do better academically and socially. They are more likely to attend college.

There is ample research to support the fact that students who are given the opportunity to attend a preschool environment have significant advantages over their peers.

One such study, The High/Scope Perry Preschool Study, is currently going into its third decade, and has been studying the long-term benefits of preschool for children. Among the findings:

At age 27, the kids who attended preschool:
* significantly higher monthly earnings at age 27 (with 29% vs. 7% earning $2,000 or more per month);
* significantly higher percentages of home ownership (36% vs. 13%) and second car ownership (30% vs. 13%);
* a significantly higher level of schooling completed (with 71% vs. 54% completing 12th grade or higher);
* a significantly lower percentage receiving social services at some time in the previous 10 years (59% vs. 80%); and
* significantly fewer arrests by age 27 (7% vs. 35% with 5 or more arrests), including significantly fewer arrests for crimes of drug making or dealing (7% vs. 25%).

There are plenty of other studies out there to demonstrate the importance of preschool. Just google it.

Preschool is important to me as a parent because it provides my child a time of independence, to grow and learn skills that I can't teach her. I also value that extra me time, I only get 2 hours every couple of days, but I find that it recharges me and then I can be a better parent.

Gives the kids a first taste of what to expect when they have to be at school all day. Tackles that seperation issue some kids have w/ the parents. Teaches them to be a lil more independent of their parents.

It gives them a well earned break from their kids for starters, LOL. But it also develops the childs social skills as well as learning skills, in preperation for public schooling.
