I would say that this is one method of rebelling against the fact that they are in class against their wishes. It's a very immature way of rebelling, and it ultimately does harm on everyone, including themselves, but unfortunately it's effective in the short term, so it's what some resort to. They simply decide that they make a relative gain by making the instructor (and other students) lose more.
This is I suppose an unfortunate consequence of making youth go to school in order to "ensure" that they receive an education. It sounds like a lot of outside issues direct this behaviour, but compelled class attendence brings it to a head. This might sound callous, but I often wished that they would be allowed to unenroll from school and do something else, at least until they learn that their strategy was not a very good one.

I think many of the problems stem from the students thinking that they have nothing to learn from the teachers or nothing they're interested in. They feel that they know everything there is to know about the world and they fail to treat teachers with the respect they deserve, as elders and educators.

It's what's happening to them at home.
They bring it to school with them.
If you just ignore them and feel sorry for them they won't make as much noise. If it's really bad the teacher has a responsibilty perhaps to report the behavior so someone can get to the bottom of it.

Yep. But to a kid, the teacher is just an authority figure for ANOTHER eight hours a day.

It didn't used to be like that. Sounds like some immature students who weren't properly disciplined when they were young. Chances are those rowdy students are already losers.

They're probably just trying to annoy the teachers, therefore they don't care about their education. That means that they are lazy and hate to do work.

Because they were raised by wild wolves and don't know how to act any other way. I'm sure they treat everyone this way. I blame the parents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
