The only reason it is a problem today it they way our government is set up. When we are bashing the illegeal immigrants we are tired of the government helping them out all of the time, but they are not putting anything back into the system. They are just sucking our economy dry. When our ansestor come over we were making and new country and setting all of the rules. They are called "illegeal immigrants" for a reason. They need to get their act together and get legeal. This would not be an issue if everyone did their part. Guard the boraders and do your paper. It is really a slap in the face for the people that did the work to become legeal. They just need to quit depend on us for everything, and americans need to quit supporting them too.

See, my ancestors, and most other peoples ancestors, came here LEGALLY. They ASSIMILATED and my ancestors who came from countries where English was not the common language, LEARNED ENGLISH and then, contributed greatly to society (my English ancestors fought in the American Revolution). Also, remember the African-Americans? Yeah, I don't think they came here by choice and I don't remember learning in history class that they took over anyones land or murdered anyone...
People in this country "bash" illegals because they're here ILLEGALLY. Its a huge slap in the face to the millions of people who try to immigrate here LEGALLY or who wait YEARS to become an American and go through the LEGAL process of becoming one and theres others waltzing into this country, over staying their visas, coming across the borders, etc.
And while I'll admit that some of these illegals do try to assimilate, work hard and learn the language, etc., many do not and milk this country and our pathetic excuse for a current government for all its worth. They act as though we owe them something and that WE should bend over backwards to cater to them, when they shouldn't be here in the first place!
We don't honor other illegal activities such as murder, theft, etc. so why should we do the same for those who come here ILLEGALLY? And that was my 2 cents.

Too bad the world doesn't work like that, you are always going to get someone's opinion, like mine. The difference between our ancestors and illegal immigrants, is that eventually our ancestors became legal citizens of this country and not some Mexicans who come into OUR country and take our jobs, and go on welfare and WIC, and whatever else because they take e verything for granted. Another difference is that our ancestors learned how to speak English, not like the immigrants who come into the country now who think we are going to conform to them. I've had so many Mexicans ask if I speak Spanish.....buddy, I live in America, why would I speak Spanish. The bottom line is, there is a difference, and when you come to America, you speak English....because we will never become a Spanish speaking country. The difference is that our ancestors conformed and the immigrants now want to keep their traditions and etc., but with the freedom that America has. If you want to come into this country, FINE, but get legalized and speak the language!

Milton, I have to agree with you, but a lot of the immigration you spoke of was before the threat of terrorist attack, and amnesties were called in the past to legalize these aliens. Immigration has to be done legally. Yes let the governments do their job.
Immigrant workers built so many countries, and yes many people would love to move to another country and a better life, but there are procedures in place for this to happen. You cannot condone the breaking of laws.

My dear Milton Egbert, if that's the name you prefer nowadays ... are you by any chance going back to the first settlers, who came over with the Mayflower? :) There have been many many people coming over since the founding of this country, who have followed the immigrations laws of the time! What we are dealing with in this forum mainly is the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS who are violating the laws of today!! You agree we have immigration laws? You are aware of that? And you advocate they should be broken? OK, what other laws should we break then while we're at it? Should we all withhold taxes? Will we get a huge tax return if we do that, plus amnesty? I should hope so ... I mean, break one law, break them all ... if not why not??

i am sick of this question no as far as i know all my family came legal but even if there was one who didnt it does not matter we live here in the now anyone can justify anything and get rid of any laws if we go by those terms .in the good ole days land was more abundant so everyone came and kept coming . so our smart fore fathers came up with immigration laws and they must have had need for it . so think what it might be like now if they didn't but we are not without heart we still let people come just legally!
What we’re seeing in the streets is a naked assertion of power by outsiders against the American nation. They demand that we comply with their wishes and submit our immigration policies for their approval, and implicitly threaten violence if their demands are not met. source "American Dhimmitude.
This is precisely the same kind of challenge that aggressive outsiders are making against other parts of the West, including Muslim immigrants in Europe and, in the most extreme form, Palestinians in Israel. Supremacist Muslims have demanded that Europe repudiate Israel, legally prohibit public criticism of Islam, downplay acts of violent Jew-hatred by immigrants, and not deport Muslim illegal aliens. And some Palestinians, of course, demand that Jewish state abolish itself altogether, actually cutting it out of maps of the Middle East (just as illegal-alien marchers in L.A. held signs of North America with the United STATES crossed out

My forebears didn't do anything of the sort. Speak for yourself.
My ancestors all came legally, the last in response to a homestead offer when the US needed people to farm land in the Dakotas. Those latecomers and their neighbors set aside land and buit their own church and school and paid for the teacher and minister by collection. No one paid their health care, either.
Things are very different today.
However, I don't 'bash'. I just think my children's education should come before their children's education. Clearly, from test scores in our underfunded overcrowded border state schools, we are incapable of funding both.
This isn't a hundred, or a thousand, or even a hundred thousand of them. This is many, many millions. The burden is too great. However, you are welcome to pay for them, if you like.

not everybody 'bashes' illegal immigrants....plus immigration has changed alot since America was discovered, like our ancestors came here legally and it was easier to get through the 'gates', AND when it all started there was no quota, and when they did establish one, it was higher than it is now....... how are you supposed to stop the government from doing their work?, their going to revise and rewrite immigration policies whether anybody likes it or not, they aren't going to stop what their doing and listen to every single person around the world and get their opinion as to what should be done.

You're not going to like this, but, this is a matter of black/white. I'm just telling you how it is, not my opinion.
For the most part, it is White Americans who are more against, and minorities who are more in support.
"There was a time for immigration", or "my family came legally" is usually (not always) a caucasian answer. "The government is not fair", is (for the most part) a minority answer.
Now why is it this way? Hmm... beats me.
