I have to get rid of my cats...love them dearly, very hard thing for me to do. However, I have just found that my son is allergic to them. Anybody know a shelter that won't put them to sleep?

I have tried to find someone who will take them, but I haven't had any luck. I live in Indiana. I have a black and white tabby, and a yellow Tom. Both have been neutured, and one has had his front feet declawed.

Hi, I work in a Shelter and yes we get over filled, Get sick cats in and have to Euthanize. Its sad but alot of pet owners dont take the steps to get their pets fixed and our Country is Full of homeless unwanted animals...Shelters can only hold as many as they can and unlike no-kill shelters they cannot turn any animal in their county away.Their really is no such thing as a No-kill shelter they may not kill them there ,but send them to the Vet to be put down.
We do try very hard at Shelters to get good homes for the animals that come in.At my shelter we charge $65 that gets you a cat that is Neg for Feline Luekemia&Aids,Spayed or Neutered, Dewormed, Microchipped, Shots and Rabie shots. Same with dogs.
Hopefully you will find someone to take your cats but be carefull who gets them..I would rather see a cat in a shelter or Euthanized than living a life of Hell with a horrible owner...Good Luck

Please dont put them into a shelter...
Find people that you know and trust that you can give the animals too. Most shelters with a No Kill garuntee will pass the animals off if they dont seem to be desireable to people, onto a shelter that will wait a month and then put them to sleep. It happens all the time.
Also, if you really dont want to get rid of your cats there are medication(s) that your son can take to suppress the symptoms of the allergy.

you could always try shaving the cats all the time. I am allergic, and this helps. Or you could put signs up everywhere. I believe sisca does not kill animals. I would google sisca ,and see if there is one near you, and how they handle that. Good luck I love cats, but I live in Ohio

Don't know where you are in IN, but I know that the Home For Friendless Animals takes in pets and they are a no-kill shelter. Pets can stay there for the rest of their lives if no one ever adopts them. They are in Waynetown. Good luck with such a hard decision...

regrettably that does ensue. There are shelters which will take your puppy interior the front and euthanize them interior the back room no longer quickly after. some animals make it to the kennel/cat cage and in basic terms have some days till now they're euthanized. this is unhappy. time-honored human beings such as you don't comprehend what can ensue to the animals once you drop them off. refer to the guy in fee of the preserve, and discover out why they're doing it. this is in all threat via overpopulation and underfunding. additionally write a letter to the editorial component to your paper and a letter on your interior of sight information station so as that folk understand what is going on. perhaps the preserve can obtain some help so as that it will no longer ensue as lots interior the destiny.

Where do you live? I know you could probably find one by asking around your town. Also try giving them away to friends, that way you'd know where they end up.
