Well in my opinion I think you should have a talk with the people doing all of this. It is so sad these days to see how young people with a disability are treated with disrespect. I go to school and it is hard just being a regular student but having a disability must be really hard for your poor cousin. I am sure that poorboy christian didn't mean all teachers he probaly meant some of the teachers that called the poor child the names. But the truth is not all teachers care anymore. That is very sad but very true.

I'm not sure how you should handle this.... What I would do is go public. Call the news papers and TV news in your area. Tell them about the neglect in the facility and how the children harass the mentally challenged... Once the school has to deal with all of this media attention (having to answer questions and provide explanations), they will hopefully change the policies or maybe they will just have to follow the policies already in place. The bully kids will probably get the discipline that they deserve also.

Yes u stick up for her but complain to the principle also. In the wake of school shooting and stuff the average school official should be pretty sensitive to bullying.

If verbal complaints don't work send a letter to the school and a copy to the police force in your area. Just put cc durham police at the end of it or whatever your local force is called and I garentee there will be action and that the staff will be doing a lot of explaining to various parents claiming they did't know what was going on.

Your job is to go to the authoritys and not shut up until things change.

Nope, they don't seem to care do they? I had a situation like that happen in my area. A handicapped kid who needed a wheelchair was getting made fun of by a huge group of boys. They even started on his sister who went to the school as well. The school did absolutely nothing and it was in the newspaper. I'd never educate my children in a place like that, it's sickening.

I would get your parents or her parents to go have a nice LONG chat with whoever runs these schools. If they need to yell, they should DO SO. Some of those people are so thick-skulled a bullet couldn't find it's way to their brain if it tried.

my gosh that is horrible. schools just keep getting worse and worse don't they. I'd try talking to the super attendant about the coach. As a staff member the coach is supposed to be there to show an EXAMPLE not be an idiot. threaten legal actions "schools get so scared when you do that" and also tell about the principal since the principal ain't doing there job as well

I am a teacher who taught in a life skills class for 14 years. I certainly didn't do it for the paycheck. I could make much more at a different job. I loved every one of my kids, and some of them were a challenge to love!
What's happening with your sister is unexcusable. Go to the superintendent. Go to the media. Don't stop telling people until something changes. Good luck!!!!

You really have to tell her parents and get the legal ball rolling. Teachers have a responsibility to assist in the building of positive self esteem and this teacher is clearly violating that role. You may even want to bring a tape recorder. If it goes correctly you will be able to afford the best school in the land. (smile)

You really need to listen to me on this one .People are idiots. I've seen stuff like this happen at my junior high, even my old elementary school. What you need to do is "STICK UP FOR HER!!!!", and I'm gonna be obnoxious about that ,cause, she won't mind, and when you do, not only will you be a cousin to her, but a friend. Like I said really listen to the advice I just gave you, and note that, I'm not an expert, I mean I'm only 13, it just sickens me to see someone get made fun of like that, and no one do anything about it...............

I know what your going through. Stick up for her and show who's boss. Its not funny to make fun of others. There are good counselors and bad ones. Try a mentor for school.

I'm so sorry for this .u r right about what schools have become lately.U've to keep on complaining & tell the headteatcher .if it doesn't work then keep on trying to tell more higher persons who r responsible for this.just don't give up make teachers get sick of this complaining then they might move about it.
