If you were selected as a member of the student council, shouldn't you be competant enough to come up with the speech yourself? Shouldn't the speech be your own? Why are you asking us?

Addressing the student council and members of the general student community, you can say:
When the best leader does her/his work well, people say: "We did it ourselves." I want to be the best leader I could be. I need you all to tell me how I could help this student community to realize its goals and aspirations. I'm here to serve each and all students. Thank you.

Express your appreciation for this honor. Let them know what you will be doing to make the student council more productive. Just be yourself.

What do you really want to say? Boil it down to the bare bone basics, and cut through the long words and explanations until you have just a few words. "Well, what I want to do is raise the school budget so we can start a fund that would go towards a prom fund, so we can..."="I want to raise money for our class so we can have a really great prom" There you go.

It you are making a speech about being elected. Let them know how much you appreciate being elected and let them know that you will do your best to fill the duties of the roll you were elected for. Good Luck and Congrats!
