Does specific times of the day really add and subtract weight? I bought a Weight Watchers scale today and want to know how when and how often I should weigh myself. :)

Weigh yourself first thing in the morning and no more than once a week.

Try to do it the same time in the morning after you've been to the bathroom. Do it on a bare floor as carpeting throws off the accuracy. Do not shower or shampoo first--you can add as much as 2 lbs. to your weight.

Everyone has said not to weigh yourself every day. However, I've been reading different articles in health mags and web sites (sorry, didn't bother to write them down at the time), where the new thinking is to weigh yourself every day. There will be fluctuations of course, depending on your menstrual cycle, if you're sick, if you're taking pain pills which can cause constipation, for example. However, it does give you control over what happens that day. If you splurged the day(s) before, you know you need to cut out the empty calories (junk food/sodas, etc.) and need to drink more water (an absolute must) and maybe vary your exercise routine.

When I started losing weight I tried it once a week and only lost a few pounds in a few months because I rationalized I could make up for it the next week. Guess what--that next week stretched on until I had actually gained more. Now that I weigh every day I consistently lose about 2 pounds a week--and keep it off.

By the way, keep your scale for yourself--not the other family members. Don't be discouraged by different weights on other scales (like at Weight Watchers and doctors' offices). You're weighing yourself then with clothes on and at different times of the day. Also, a lot of people use them and you don't know how often they have a technician come in to recalibrate them. Every scale measures differently so trust yours.

Actually, try not to weigh yourself every day. It can be more mentally detrimental than good. Weigh yourself once a week at the most. If you are taking care of what you eat and exercising, how your clothes fit are a much better indicator. Try not to obcess about your weight. If you are doing weight training activities you may actually gain a few pounds before you start burning fat (muscle burns more fat) and loosing weight. This happens because muscle weighs more than fat.

Your body does weigh more at different times. You will weigh more for sure during your menstrual cycle because you retain more water.

pick a day just one day of every week and when you wake up frist thing, get naked and weigh yourself, do this on the same day and time (if possible) of every week. Now keep in mind if you haven't lost any weight from week to week do not panic as we often hit a plateau (when it doesn't shift). if you eat healthy and exercise regularly drinking alot of water you will be able to loose gradually. It's the food you eat and how you eat and also the exercise you do, walking briskly is great even if it's only 3 times a week and for up to 30 mins (that's better than nothing) Cardio workouts like running, cycling or power walking are good way to get rid of fat. good luck with it. I do not recommend weighing yourself daily, just once a week.

I actually know this one...the best time to weigh yourself is in the morning when you first wake up. You haven't eaten yet, so you don't have any excess buildup. After everything's digested and everything and you've rested, it's the perfect time. Weigh yourself when you first wake up the same day each week to see how you progress. That's your best bet.

Weight Watchers (if I recall correctly) suggests that you weight yourself once a week at the same time each week.
